U.S. deaths, which peaked over 100 a month in the spring as the surge got underway, have dropped to a 14-month low at 63 in September in the wake of highly successful offensives against al-Qaeda bastions and with the spread of the tribal rejection of terrorism and cooperation with the government.

In other Iraq news, U.S. and Iraqi forces have a good weekend. Jihadis have a bad one. More than 60 killed, on top of the killing of  AQ’s “emir of foreign terrorists.”

Captain’s Quarters: civilian deaths dramatically down, too.  This could really get in the way of surrender operations. Bad news. Terrorist deaths in Iraq appear to be down for the month.  Maybe there aren’t that many of them? Or, despite big Ramadan promises, they’ve gone to ground? Who knows.  Well, on the bright side, the coalition nearly doubled their kill rate in Afghanistan!

Meanwhile, Sunni and Shiite lawmakers agree on something. Biden’s partition idea is a bad one.
