War for Freedom
Dems now onboard.
Limbaugh’s inadvertantly saying something stupid has had the laudable effect of compelling Harry Reid to support the war in Iraq, as Dem Cong choose not to take the advice of their anti-war blogging pals and are making a federal case out of Limbaugh’s “phony soldiers” remark. This from Reid’s letter read on the Senate floor:
“Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted.”
That sounds like a worthwhile cause. Reid’s letter was to be available on the Senate floor all day for other senators of both parties to add their names. It’ll be fascinating to see who has signed on in support of the war for freedom in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, the Philippines and so many foreign fields where American soldiers are now engaged.

Our nation just isnt’ going to make it if we keep on focusing on phony controversies like these. Rush Limbaugh had an absolute right to call soldiers who disagree with him “phony soliders” if that’s what he wanted to do.
The Senate should leave him alone and focus on things that are actually important, as should everyone else.

BTW, corndog, I completely agree with your sentiment. It’s just that I wish everyone had the same definition of “phony controversies”.

The only thing is, “soldiers who disagree with him” are not who Limbaugh was talking about. He actually was talking about fake soldiers like Jesse MacBeth and Micah Wright, who claimed combat duty they never saw. The whole thing was taken out of context in a lame attempt by lefties to get Limbaugh.

Oh, and by the way: Senator Harry Reid takes the cake for hypocrisy. I hope crafting that letter hurt like hell.

I don’t like Limbaugh and I am surprised it took this long for him to say something this stupid, but the whole controversy is silly.
Rebecca, he should have known better. I know he said he was talking about actual phonies, but it was worded badly. It was clear in the conversation that the caller was not just talking about people who pretend to be soldiers and Limbaugh just took it from there.

Oh my god. I can’t believe I actually agree with Terrye, every single word.
But to take it one step further, Terrye, Limbaugh should be allowed to retreat if he wants, and say that he really meant it to be something else.
it’s just a courtesy that every speaker should have - that if someone takes offense at something the speaker says, the speaker should be able to say whether the offense was intended. Same rule should go for Limbaugh, and for MoveOn and for John Kerry in 2006. Otherwise we end up in these stupid phony things.

This phony outrage isn’t going to make people think the Dems are pro-military and Rush isn’t. That’d be like African Americans joining the Klan because David Duke claimed Jesse Jackson said something racist.
Any idiot can see from the transcript that Rush was talking about the phony soldiers who never served that the Dems and the liberal media keep trotting out to try to discredit the war. But, the Dems think the people are less than idiots. Some are but, they’re not voting Republican anyway.
