Doom, Gloom

You know, it looks like Ricardo Sanchez is telling the Military Reporters & Editors convention: “I commanded a debacle. Petraeus is commanding a desperation play. Death and destruction without end.”

As LTC Kilcullen noted in some recent remarks, veterans perceptions of Iraq are usually colored by which part of the war they were deployed in. Sanchez commanded the part when the wheels came off.

Here we go.  A little more from Stars and Stripes, which seems to be mainly interested in its bad history with Sanchez.  Sanchez comes off a little bitter.  About everything.  S&S provides Sanchez’ reason for why he doesn’t think the strategy has a chance … insufficient non-military resources, lack of coordination. Well, that sounds a little more like we need more non-military resources and coordination than “nightmare with no end in sight.”   If what he is trying to do is offer constructive criticism as a retired general, that is.

I’d like to know what the hell happened to just fading away.

He is indeed bitter. Bitter towards the Admin, bitter towards the media, bitter about having been handed a very difficult task. Of course, he might be right about the gloom. However, the recent political shifts in Iraq are not so gloomy. I don’t think he took that into account in his speech (which I think was a highly inappropriate speech for a General, while the “war” is still happening.)

    Wesley Clark blazed this path.

    HEY READ THE SPEECH

DON’T BLAME SANCHEZ until you have read his speech! The MSM ’summaries’ of it were disgusting hatchet jobs. Sanchez focuses almost entirely on two things: (1) the media lies its head off and this is bad for the war effort, and (2) the Democrat Party is causing so much infighting that it is degrading the capacity of the USA to win. He criticizes the current admin mostly in the context that they are disabled by constantly having to pander to the divisive demands of the Democrats. He is much smarter than his audience, and THEY DON’T GET THE DRIFT.
