Getting Out Front of the Genocide Issue

Pelosi pushes an Armenian genocide vote.

Genocide still exists indeed. That’s what makes this such a critical move for Pelosi. When you’ve been doing everything you can to promote a 21st century genocide as a matter of principle, it is important that you show you won’t be intimidated by crass political concerns into taking a firm stand against a genocide that happened 90 years ago.

This broad never passes up an opportunity to work against this country’s foreign affairs interests. She has become a shadow government unto herself.

Why this vote now? We’ve fought against Turkey’s incursion into Kurdish Iraq since the war began. Nothing like giving one of the few Islamic “friendlies” that isn’t at war with us, a reason for confrontation.

  2. The_Real_JeffS Says:

How is it that the second person in the line of succession for the Presidency doesn’t have the backbone to go after real genocide?

San Fran Nan dialing the way back machine for a century plus is hardly an act of bravery. Indeed, I would define it as an act of cowardice; she’s striking at an old event carried out by a defunct empire, but blaming an ally in the war on terror.

What’s next? Passing a resolution against Italy because Rome burned and razed Carthage to the ground centuries ago? Or maybe because Mussolini allied with Hitler during WWII?

  3. RebeccaH Says:

House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said possible reprisals affecting Turkey’s cooperation with the US military were “hypothetical” and would not derail the resolution.

In fact, that’s probably the point of this whole stupid resolution. Red Nancy strikes again.

  4. Vanguard of the Commentariat Says:

Gee, her pals in the Soviet Union and Red China killed many more people much more recently. You’d think she could get worked up about that too and pass a few meaningless resolutions about those events.

  5. tree hugging sister Says:

Oil’s over $86/brl today on the the chance that a Turkish excursion into Iraq to spank some Kurd troublemakers will restrict supplies. Especially since the Turks are about past giving a rats ass what WE think. In the selfish interest of my gas card balance ~ and with all due apologies to the Armenians of yesteryear ~ you GO, Nancy! Piss those guys off summor, why doncha?

  6. tanstaafl Says:

I’ve read that under Nanc’s tutelage, there is a virtual algae bloom of meetings in the H of R.

And that the woman is so bent on tidying up, she holds meetings about meetings.

She’ll get a bee in her bonnet…(e.g., this re-introduction of an Armenian Resolution which has happened 2 times in the past already)…and cling to it like a determined hostess at a Tupperware party.

Such kinds of things (and challenges thereto) get all tied up with her image of herself as a “leader”.

Then there’s the more nefarious notion of The Resolution being a way to mess with the Iraq War.

  7. MikeH Says:

Hey, wait a minute! What about Darfur? Have they passed a non-binding resolution on Darfur yet? What the hell are they waiting for, Christmas? I haven’t seen anything come down on Myanmar yet either!

Oh… My bad, it hasn’t been 90 years for them yet. Sheesh, I’m sorry guys.

  8. OnlyInBostonKids Says:

Nancy Pelosi reminds me of the little kid who goes to the gorilla’s cage and harasses a peaceful gorilla into a angry, excrement throwing frenzy, and then wonders why the zoo won’t let her and her parents back in.

Nancy’s agitated because of all of her furthest-of-far-left buddies want the war ended so they can seize power, and something beyond a token “Dubya Bad” resolution ain’t gonna wash. Sure, Turkey couldn’t give two hangs about what America thinks (Congressional hearings here = Turkey’s Funniest Home Videos there), but if San Fran Nan thinks the war will end on the backs of Armenians, she doesn’t know the Armenians very well.

THS: If Hillary Clinton is ever elected President, I can guarantee you that oil will be back to $15-20 per barrel and gasoline under $1.50 the second she’s sworn in. Why? She (and many of her cronies in Congress) will zoom straight into Wall Street and tax the living daylights out of it. When she’s done with them, she’ll come after the middle class. No money for gas, when it’s all going for her programs.
