Jesus Loves A Smaller Carbon Footprint

I don’t know about you, but all this cranked-up God talk by Obama lately looks like a cheap ploy for rube votes in Iowa to me. That issue aside, Obama is skipping like a lamb from one side of the God/science divide to the other:  

“The bible tells us that when God created the earth, he entrusted us with the responsibility to take care of that earth,” he said. “It is a responsibility to ensure that this planet remains clean and safe and livable for our children, and for all of God’s children.”

“Science has made it undeniably clear that our generation is not living up to this responsibility.”

That’s an interesting statement, because the growing dispute among scientists over the climate change issue he’s apparently refering to has made it clear that global warming orthodoxy relies on a heavy dose of faith.

Anyway, and verily, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to reduce his carbon footprint.

Here’s more God talk by Obama. If anyone can tell me what this means, I’d be eternally grateful:

“Our faith informs our values, and I think we’d all agree that our values inform our politics more than they have over the last six years,” the Illinois senator said at an interfaith forum in downtown Des Moines.

   I think that he’s getting dangerously close to stepping over the church/state line in the sand.
   He’s just about to say that God has been and still is leading us, except for the evil and godless Bush during the last six years!

   This is a dangerously revealing statement, in fact, if “our politics” means saying whatever you think your audience wants to hear, and saying something different to another audience tomorrow. It means no value, and little faith.

   To hell with faith, I’d like to hear just one rational statement. I don’t want to vote for someone on faith. I’d like to have someone who is consistent enough that I could put some trust in my understanding of that person’s values. A lot of people have faith in a lot of insane ideas and aren’t to be trusted with the family cat, much less one’s life, the life of one’s loved ones, or the life of the country. If we’ve forgotten our own history of the consequences of combining faith and force, we now have Islam to remind us.

   So what would Jesus drive?

   Well, since he was a carpenter, probably an F-250 diesel super duty 4×4 with a ladder rack, tool boxes, and a lift gate.

   Heh.
