Herself
I’m sure she’s a very intelligent, accomplished woman, and the CIA doesn’t hire airheaded dolts, but she isn’t doing much to advance the cause of Blondekind with this Huffington post. Anyone else getting vapid cheerleader off this?
I’m Valerie Plame Wilson and I’m excited to be here and blog about my book Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House, which goes on sale Monday, Oct 22. When my publisher sent me the finished copy earlier this week, it was thrilling. It felt like a new chapter (forgive the pun) has begun on the journey that has taken some incredible twists and turns since July 14, 2003, when my covert identity was exposed and ended a career that I loved.
That much more vapid when what she is cheering for is herself.
Watching myself on 60 Minutes was surreal — who can ever get used to seeing themselves on TV? I guess the book tour has really started and it will be a crazy week ahead. After four and a half years and everyone else in world talking about me, it feels good to finally be able to tell my story myself.
Everybody talking about herself, which is pretty much what the Plame-Wilson enterprise has been about since it was brought to our attention. Herself and himself, though himself doesn’t even get a mention in this post. He’s gotta be in the book somewhere.
“We needed to get to the bottom of these rumors about Saddam and his nukes, and whether he was buying nuke stuff in Africa. It was really, really important. Almost as important as my career. So I said, ‘I have an idea. Let’s send whathisname. My husband. All he’s doing is puttering around the garage these days anyway, and he’s chummy with a lot of those African nabobs and what have you.’”*
* Clarification: In the event any readers/visiting Plame fans are more vapid than Plame, I made that quote up. It’s satire. Not real.
It’s all fair game. Previously:

Less vapid than disingenuous. Less cheerleader than shrewd, calculating opportunist.

So let me put on my “Angry Left Thinking Cap” and get this straight: the CIA sends blonde trophy wife and mother of infant twins NOC into cultures where where they treat women like a John Norman novel and nobody else is blonde…
Yeah, sure.
How does that work Special Agent Plame? Do you put on a “9-11 was an inside job” t-shirt, designer jeans, kitten heels, give your luscious blonde locks a petulant toss and just “blend in”?
Talk about the willing suspense of disbelief!

I wish I could magnify the type. I can almost swear there are little smiley faces instead of dots over the i’s.

PLAME HAS NO STORY, SHE OUTED HERSELF. “At the meeting on Feb 19, 2002, (1) Plame identified herself as working for the CIA without any indication to any meeting participant that her CIA affiliation was classified; (2) Plame identified the former ambassador that the CIA wanted to send to Niger as her husband, a fact which no one at the meeting had any work-related need to know. (3) At no time over the subsequent 15 months were any meeting participants notified in any way shape or form that the CIA affiliation of the wife of the former ambassador sent to Niger was in any way shape or form classified or sensitive.” From that meeting, Plame’s CIA status became generally known at State.

While I certainly hope that the CIA doesn’t hire stupid people, let’s not make the common mistake of equating, or conflating, intelligence with the way one uses one’s rational faculty. I’ve known some very intelligent people who didn’t have a clue. I suspect that blondie is one of those.
In Ms. Plame’s case, it is most important to remember that intelligence does not confer character.

Valerie deserves all given her, but why the backhanded swipes at blondhood? If she was a nappy-headed black woman, would you mention it?

Banjo says: “If she was a nappy-headed black woman, would you mention it?”
Oh please. What’s your point? Are you saying that because Jules makes a blond joke, he’s a racist? I’m a red head. That means I have a vicious temper, right? Well, actually, I do have a vicious temper, but that’s beside the point. My sister is a blond. There isn’t a blond joke she hasn’t told.
Why do you focus on the most nonessential bit to comment on? Is this the first time you’ve noticed the humor in Jule’s posts? If you don’t think blond jokes are funny, fine, but please don’t make out like it’s more than it is.

Banjo, my personal blonde “call out” had nothing to do with the color of her hair itself, rather the fact that she was supposed to be covert among enemies who don’t normally have hair of that color, and that further diminishes her cred.
So yeah, if she was black and was out there embellishing her covert status with regards to say, undercover service in Finland, yes I would mention it.

Breaking news:
Ms Plame sent me the following email:
“All this attention could go to my head. I never expected it at all, being a covert blond. Now I feel just like Paris Hilton. Call me.”

I’ll wait for the Plame sex tapes on YouTube. She’s going to have to do something now that her credibility is in the same league as Kathy Willets.
