The Joys of Breaking Rockies
Await the Sox after yet another back from behind pennant win. Jubilation. Riot cops. A new tradition. Next order of business: breaking Rockies.
Magnificant win by a magnificent team that, as in 2004, is a real team. I brought home a printout of the late edition “Rock On!” frontpage and taped it to the inside of my 11-year-old son’s door when I got in at 2:30 this morning so it would be the first thing he’d see, and he’d know.
No weekend games in Boston, which is too bad or I’d take the kids up to see the circus outside Fenway. Mobs of fans camped out for tickets, walking around painted up, in costumes. Hot dogs and the big sacred pile of bricks and banners that is Fenway. In 2004, they got to watch Schilling, Varitek, Manny etal arrive at the gate at Yawkey and Van Ness, and stuck their little hands through the fence with baseballs for signatures. No can do anymore. As usual, everything gets fenced off, pushed back* and when we went up to do the same during the ACLS last weekend, they had built a big new fence with no souvenir-signing slot, and pushed everyone 40 feet back, across the street, behind police horses. We had to be satisfied with big waves from Schilling, Youkilis, the point thing from Manny, mystical sage of slack and swat in the hallowed grounds, under the looming Green Monster.
* Hey Sox … open that up again. Hey Wakefield … would it kill you to wave at the kids?

Jules, the Rockies are looking a lot like the 03′ Marlins…

The run for the pennant was wonderful to watch, from the attack of the Canadian Soldiers (shutter) during one of the best pitching fests I’ve seen in a while, the the final game. Congratulations to the Soxs.

Drat. That ought to read, “to the final game.”

“… attack of the Canadian Soldiers (shutter) …”
Usually we attempt to produce effects somewhat more intense than a simple ’shutter’.
Cheers

Why are people always attacking the Canadian military? It’s not bad for a socialist/pacifist paradise in a frozen land.

Well, if the Canadian military has come to the point where all they can do is pester the enemy, they deserve ridicule. They did manage to disrupt a good pitching duel, I’ll give ‘em that.

Banjo
You’re giving Ted Kennedy voters a bad rep.
