Desperately Seeking Fly

… for the ointment. AP sucks it up and reports on second month of dramatic drop in deaths.  Not without some cheap digs.

AP’s question, of course, is how long it will last. My question, since when does commanding troops who fight hard and fight smart, and acknowledging their progress constitute being a “tireless cheerleader.”  Would they prefer that he mope? The question, of course: When will the AP stop desperately seeking failure, and painting everything in terms of failure in Iraq? Regretably, the facts have become unavoidable.  And when facts are unavoidable, there’s nothing left but cheap digs. And wishful thinking.

But the quality of war coverage in Iraq has been a chronic problem

Great title Jules. Great news from Gen Lynch too.
And hey, this is lazy reporting - they interviewed a Battalion that has only lost one soldier in four months. Surely with a little effort they could have found a cluster of casualties? Are AP giving up?

Stay till it’s won. Leave stability behind.

Yon is so pissed off about the media he’s offered free syndication of his dispatches now.

A good report, but one that has limited exposure. I was going to write what the PURPLE AVENGER did but he/she beat me to it. Anyway, I have followed Michael’s request and have written to my paper’s management to see if they will carry Michael’s report. I hope tens of thousands of others are doing the same. As O’Reilly said last night, only the people can make the corrupt media present its reports without an ideological bias.

[…] Damn straight. Progress in Iraq is ignored completely by the press who may not want to see defeat but who clearly don’t want to see victory under this president. Or, wait…according to the press, it’s the president who’s hiding the good news!. […]

We should not be reluctant to assert the superiority of Western values.

I fear we’re asking for the difficult, if not the impossible. For AP (or any of the other legacy media) to report that our effort in Iraq is on the cusp of success is to admit that they’ve been wrong all along. The journalist ego of the evangelicals (which I define as those who felt journalism was a call to transform the world into their own vision of pseudo-egalitarian conformity) will not accept this humiliation.
