Turnaround

Thousands returning to Baghdad homes. But that’s not the only thing that’s turning around in Iraq.

Anyone else notice that AP managed to report that with nary a yeah-but, or a too-early-to-say?  I’d call that light at the end of the media tunnel. Yeah but, it is too early to say whether this in fact represents a reporting trend, or if the next tragic anti-war article will drive up the bias and cynicism numbers again.  Meanwhile, could this be the beginning of an effort to actually report on the war?  Maybe, but it’s too early to call it a trend.

How many times over the last two years have you seen this headline from the left side of the blogosphere and in the mainstream media?Have you lost count? I have.

I suppose that there comes a time when even this bunch can no longer ignore what is before their very noses, hard as they may try.

Even with the reporting on the good news, however, I still do not trust them to tell me the news. All I want is to hear what is happening, and understand how things fit into the bigger picture. I don’t care to hear someone else’s already formed opinion, with events pretzeled in to fit.

The refugee piece is the next measure of changes “on the ground”. It’s great to hear that some people have returned. Let’s hope these thousands are soon followed by the remaining millions (if that’s the right number.)

    Thanks for finding this.

Hmmmmmm……..maybe the MSM is trying to retrain themselves to become historians? That would fit with the dinosaur media meme, would it not?

It’s great news, if it lasts. And this means a lot to me - I worked in the Khadra area for the entirety of my last tour in Iraq (photo here) : http://shieldofachilles.blogspot.com/2007/11/al-khadra-is-coming-back.html

To Mr. Crittenden: great web site! Thanks for finding this - I’m going to stop in more often.

I meant to add something else to that last post - this area is completely middle class - mostly businessmen but a lot of doctors as well. Their comeback is particularly good news because they are exactly the people you need to jumpstart the economy again.

    Al Khadra is coming back!

This is very, very good news to me. The Al-Khadra neighborhood of Baghdad, located in the Northwestern section of the city, is an area I remember well. It’s where our Iraqi counterparts, the 3-5-2 National Police battalion were located, so it’s where…
