Shield of Achilles
Site of the day. U.S. Army officer, Iraq vet “John Rohan” blogs in its shade. He stopped by to visit the other day. I went over to his place for a quick perusal. Rohan’s ancient Greek war-peace interplay shtick, as it happens, is along the lines of my own in the banner up top, adapted from the Standard of Ur. Meanwhile, in the modern art department, looks like we might need to link up this guy* with this guy.* Great minds think alike.
* Both AIFW (arguably iffy for work).

Indeed, rebeccaH — I, too, look forward to more from this Soldier’s blog…mayhap he will write further of this lame god’s loves (labours lost) — for so loved he the mother of this selfsame Achilles (she yclept Thetis) that when the river god Scamander attempted to drown her son, Hephaestus did use his fire to dry up the river, thus saving the hero’s life.
And did he not spill his seed upon the ground when proud Athena cast him aside, and did not that seed fall to the ground and fertilize the earth, producing a son, who later became the first ruler of the city of Athens, graciously reared by Pallas herself?
