Post-9/11 Era?

More like post-Seinfeld.  Pro-Israel UN watchdog/unassuming Canadian Hiller Neuer is mistaken for a deranged killer in a suburban Boston pizza shop. Boston Herald. Go for the photos, stay for the 911 tape, and Hiller’s own story in his own words. Our tale begins Friday in sleepy Needham … one town over from Waltham, the fictional “Latham” of the famous last Seinfeld mistaken-arrest episode …

Back story. On Friday afternoon, an elderly man was found beaten to death in his Needham home, allegedly by a contractor he had argued with.  It was a horrifying crime. A massive manhunt for the suspect was underway and the local schools were in lockdown.

At the same time, in a downtown pizza shop, the help and the clientele were becoming alarmed by the nervous, erratic behavior of a man who changed his clothes in the shop’s restroom, took a bite of his slice, asked for a cab five times, ran out to a nearby drug store, came back in …

“Oh my God he has a gun,” screamed a woman who called 911 to alert cops about man inside Stone Hearth Pizza, her voice growing more fevered by the second. “We think he has a gun. Oh my God, we need someone here.”

But you’re really going to need to see and hear it all for yourself:

Hiller: “I never threatened anyone … I’m a very nice Canadian and the most non-confrontational person in the world.”

The very nice Canadian (and most non-confrontational person in the world) sounds like he’s preparing to sue. He ought to. This sounds just like those vicious, violent, gun-totin’ Americans! A man can’t order a damned pizza without almost getting killed by trigger happy swat Rambos.

    Really, though, disorderly conduct?

    Jules:

Needham is about two towns over from Waltham. Newton intersects the two.

How did they have an hour long standoff with the police if there wasn’t anyone to stand off with?
