Smells like Sulphur
As things get ugly in Venezuela:
Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) — Venezuelan student protesters were fired on, resulting in two gun-shot injuries, when they returned to campus today from a march opposing President Hugo Chavez’s plan to rewrite the nation’s constitution.
Seven more victims suffered other injuries, according to university official. Local television station Globovision broadcast images of protesters running for cover during the incident on the campus of the Universidad Central de Venezuela. One image showed a man in a black leather jacket firing a pistol twice. Interior Minister Pedro Carreno said at 7:10 p.m. New York time that the situation was under control.
Tens of thousands of students marched across downtown Caracas to the Supreme Court building today to petition for a delay to a planned referendum Dec. 2 on Chavez’s proposal to modify the constitution. The changes would include eliminating presidential term limits, easing the seizure private property and reducing the powers of state governments.
“I’d like to make a call for reflection,” Carreno said in a national address. “We are making a call to the owners of the mass media, to the students, to the leaders of the opposition political parties — enough already.”
Reflection is good. Enough already, Hugo.
Dr. Rodolfo Tapa, dean of the university’s medical school, said in an interview with Globovision that two of the victims suffered gun-shot wounds. Others suffered respiration problems caused by tear-gas bombs, among other injuries, Dr. Fernando Alvarado, assistant director of the university’s hospital, said on state television.
Students, business groups, the Catholic Church and some of Chavez’s former allies have come out against the constitutional plan during the past two weeks.
Protests at the Universidad de Lara, in Lara state, on Nov. 2 turned violent, resulting in two deaths by gunshot.
Smells like the devil. AP, with photos and more details, reports one dead yesterday.

It’s a shame, Oogoe’s evisceration of the Venezuelan Constitution.
Has Oogoe given away enough free stuff to Venezuelan citizens that he can effect the new proposed changes ? Or does he simply “manage” the results of any Constitutional referendum ? (because Oogoe, like his buddy Fidel, will make himself President For Life
Expect brutal suppression of any protests in Venezuela against the Atheist Oogoe and the same in Iran of any protests against the Religious Fanatic who thinks (in the words of Khomeini)
“,,, patriotism is another name for paganism. I say let this land [Iran] burn. I say let this land go up in smoke, provided Islam emerges triumphant in the rest of the world.”
Also, figure out a way to ruin these guys economies, because it is Black Gold that enables them.

Great. Another “people’s revolution” that will end up eventually eating its own.

We should undertake a Manhattan Project.
Oh! Wait!
I forgot. We already did that. And, it worked! Nuclear energy.

The US Navy has run ships and submarines on nuclear power for 50 years and Navy nuclear accidents have killed fewer folks than Ted Kennedy’s car. Who’s to say it can’t/won’t be miniaturized to the car level?
The greenies, that’s who, because by Gaia its just not right.

Nuclear energy can one-day eliminate the need for oil burning power plants. And, clean electricity can one-day power the majority of cars if not all of them. Nuclear power is something the United States pioneered. It was once looked-on as a gift from god. Seemingly limitless clean power. The eco-nazis and their accomplices in the legal industry killed that idea. We have truly suffered at their hands…Our present energy crisis, the devaluation of the dollar due to the importing of trillions worth of foreign oil, the empowering of oil producing despots and religious fascists can all be traced back to the fateful disregard of the wonder that is nuclear power…

The Naval reactors are marvels of miniaturization, but they aren’t nearly as maintenance free as a consumer product would require. I don’t know what ucrrent ones are using, but the first generation was using something like a liquid sodium cooling jacket. Metallic sodium is nothing you’d want near a consumer device.

Right PA. Concur. Not gonna happen tomorrow. But we would be 30 years ahead of where we are now if not for “The China Syndrome” being the last word on nuclear energy for about half of us.

France’s envirodonkeys are fairly quiet these days, maybe we can get her to string some transmission lines over here to help jump start the R&D process again. Since we can’t seem to get the gumption to do it ourselves.
