Be a Dutch Patriot

Smoke. MVDG

We all like to serve our country. We all believe that our country is the best, or at least one of the best, countries in the world. We are proud of our country, no matter what our country is. Because of this, we like to serve her. Some join the army. Others politicians. Again others journalists. There are also those who work for charities.

Then there are people like me: we choose to smoke.

Smoke, you ask? Can you serve your country by smoking? Why yes. The Dutch government is dependent on smokers. It has now been decided - by the Laborites and Christian Democrats - that the taxes on cigarettes will be raised by some 35 cents in 2008.

These taxes have increased constantly over the years. Smokers are considered milk cows. All in all, a package will now cost 4,25 euros. That’s $6,30.

In Massachusetts, where a similar tax structure applies and butts at last check were around $5 a pack, I’d suggest you can do your patriotic duty by not smoking.  Cut off the payroll patriots!  Pay them as little as possible!

Sounds like y’all might benefit from a little bit of organized resistance. Smuggling cigarettes from across the border might be a nice way to strike a blow for freedom against taxomatic oppression.

Or, maybe someone can start up an underground hydroponic tobacco growers network.
