Momentum Building!

I’d like to point out I’ve been a staunch advocate of impeachment for some time now, and that a number of responsible Republican members of the House have seen the light.  So what’s the hold up?  Here’s one disgruntled impeachment enthusiast, exasperated by the American anti-war mandate party’s failure to launch proceedings, and presumeably, to accomplish anything else.

Kucinich has targeted Cheney first, but investigations will implicate the president as well. For the first time in the history of the Gallup Poll, 50 percent of respondents say they “strongly disapprove” of the president. Richard Nixon had reached the previous high, 48 percent, just before an impeachment inquiry was launched in 1974. With these numbers, why aren’t Bush and Cheney gone already?

May have something to do with the fact that approval numbers for an ineffectual Congress are even more abysmal, and that Congress isn’t as stupid as it looks.  Anyway, here’s the laundry list of the high crimes and misdemeanors:

The vice president is accused of:

  • purposely manipulating intelligence to fabricate a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in order to justify an attack on Iraq;
  • deceiving Congress about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida;
  • threatening aggression against the Republic of Iran, absent any real threat to the United States.These violations of the Constitution and international treaty are just the tip of the iceberg. More articles of impeachment can be added at any time, and ample evidence to convict is on the public record. Representatives need to introduce articles regarding:
  • illegal war, in violation of both international treaty and the Constitution;
  • widespread domestic wiretapping in violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a felony. Bush already has admitted to this;
  • condoning torture in violation of federal laws and international treaties;
  • rescinding habeas corpus, the cornerstone of Western law since the Magna Carta;
  • obstruction of justice regarding U.S. attorney firings;
  • subversion of the Constitution, abuse of signing statements and rescinding habeas corpus.
  • Failing to ignore recognized threats to world security … not the American way! Enforcing UN Security Council resolutions … criminal! Habeas corpus for illegal combatants … it’s right there in the Magna Carta, or somewhere! Leaving the lights on, playing AC/DC, flushing Korans, being unpleasant … it’s positively medieval!

    The national movement to impeach is a non-partisan effort to restore the Constitution and the rule of law. People across the political spectrum can unite to preserve the Constitution and civil liberties given to us by the founders. Impeachment is the peaceful, orderly, constitutionally prescribed way to rid ourselves of a lawless administration.

    She’s right. It’s non-partisan. Do it!

    The issue is not about removing Bush and Cheney as much as it is about preserving the Constitution and redeeming the office of the executive. The Constitution is the contract of governance between the people and the government. What happens when major portions of the contract are violated?

    Congress has failed to call the president and vice president to account, so citizens must turn up the heat. Members of Congress who fail to demand investigations are covering for criminals. Every elected official has sworn an oath to “support and protect the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.” Anything less than impeachment and a full repudiation of the Bush administration’s crimes and violations of the law is a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the public trust.

    If we want our democracy back, we need to roll up our sleeves and get to work to clean out the House.

    I agree.  The best possible thing that could happen for the future of American democracy … no, for the future of America … would be impeachment proceedings, now!  And some House cleaning. Get rid of some of that useless junk that’s lying around the place.

      Impeachment describes the process for removal from office of single federal employees who have clearly breached the canons of office.

      (you know, like when the nation’s chief law enforcement officer lies under oath ?)

      Impeachment yellers and screamers (even HairReed and Nancy know I Won’t Fly) will be.lost without the Bush/Cheney cabal to kick around.

      One short year away this month, and, voilà, significant depression and lack of focus set in for this crowd.

      Here, speaking generally, I must disagree. If Kookcinich and his ilk were to disappear, Congress’ collective IQ would rise like a child’s lost balloon.

      I just love these folks who invoke the law, federal and international, when they obviously don’t have a clue what they are talking about.

      I can hardly wait until the impeachment trial begins and the Democrats try and explain why it was o.k. for Slick Willie to order hundreds of bombing raids against Iraq, but when Bush/Cheney take over it’s suddenly an impeachable offense to carry out military operations against the exact same country.

      The rest of the “charges” are equally as absurd.

      The Dems should impeach the President and Vice-President for the crime of defending the country in time of war? Riiiiiiiight. What a brilliant political strategy that is on the eve of an election.

      These clowns are living in Cloudcuckooland.

      That’s because to the Democrats back then, Slick Willie could do no wrong. He was in the middle of impeachment for perjury and lying under oath, so why not distract a few nosy people by going after Saddam Hussein?

      The Democrats were assuming, nay, expecting, that Slick Willie’s alcolyte, Al Gore, would be heir apparent to the throne and everything would be sweetness and light. When Election 2000 happened, the Democrats also expected Gore to be elected by the popular vote, yet, Bush won Florida by 543 votes and won the presidency by the electoral college. Hence, going on eight years, the calls for “impeachment” are revenge for not electing Gore (because they still think Bush stole the election, when it was actually Gore who finally had the common sense to stop all the recounts) and revenge for trying to impeach King Slick Willie for his crimes, some of them including Herself the Co-President.

      What these people truly need is serious, deep, and thorough sessions with a psychologist, well trained in narcissistic personality disorder, because I can bet you in a past life, they got wedgied or thrown into a locker too many times and developed a warped sense of self. This type of narcissism is malignant, and jibes dangerously closely with that of the Manson family.

      Yeah, I saw some of these clowns on the west over the weekend. They were on an overpass along I-5 with a huge “IMPEACH” sign, and some goofball wearing a red suit and gold mask, waving at the traffic.

      Needless to say, I waved back.
