“seasonal affected disorder”, the season that affects them most known as “hunting season”…
The name of the disorder is seasonal affective disorder which relates to low or blue feelings that might come over a human being due to lower light stimulation of the pineal gland during winter light conditions.
Deer (whitetail or mule or any species) aren’t biologically conditioned to react to automobiles in their environment, to put it mildly.
I live in an area flush with mule deer. As I drive, I am constantly alert to possible movements when I see one or a group along the side of the road. I don’t “cruise along” any of these roads, but drive with the idea that anything can happen at any moment, especially in known deer crossing areas.

Deer crossing the highways are a problem in this part of Ohio. I know several people who’ve hit them, and we almost lost a student worker a few years ago when he totaled his car on a big buck crossing a six-lane bypass. I’m always on the watch for them when I drive, because I live in a fairly rural area.
As an aside, my mother used to hunt deer with my father. Never got one, as far as I know, and she gave it up after a few years.
