Basement-Dwelling Mushrooms and Higher Order Plant Life

Michelle spots more plants at the CNN/YouTube GOP debate.

I was working and only caught a little of it on the TV mounted near my desk.   The only plants I noticed were basement-dwelling mushrooms.

This cartoon-questioning and political engagement for shut-ins* gimmick may be the most ridiculous and pointless thing I’ve seen in three decades of American electoral politics. Not counting Ross Perot and whathisname’s flannel shirt, that is.  It is a triumph for Reality nation, however, where every American has a right … no, a mandate … to make a jackass of himself and display his inarticulate ignorance on national TV, just because.

As one of my co-workers noted, John McCain looked like he was losing patience with this questioning-by-snowman bullshit.

Let me know if I missed something and this is the final realization of true Jeffersonian democracy. Maybe I’m wrong and this is a great new engagement with the vast disenfranchised masses. Everyone is already free to regurgitate all the warmed-over conspiracy theories, distortions and partisan propaganda they want to. That’s the beauty of America. But if you want to be involved in the political life of your nation, sooner or later you’re going to have to get dressed, tie your shoes, go out, and meet people.

Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so. Weekly Standard, ”a good night for the lowest common denominator” and “two hours of humiliation.”

* Not to include the involuntarily infirm and handicapped, nor intended as a slur against same. Video-conferencing is an entirely legitimate way to engage them, and should be a part of any town hall-style political event.

I thought that there was a good reason not to follow any of these silly YouTube debates. Thanks for the confirmation, Jules!

Speaking as both an invalid and shut-in, I resent being used as a pathetic excuse for this particular abortion (and I structured that sentence purposefully–I resent being portrayed as something pitiable, and think using those like me is a pathetic appeal for sanction).

In my mind in this virtual world, you are neither. Your fingers and mind though your words, have reached have reached hundreds of thousands and in God knows how many places on this planet.

Don’t ever forget that, young lady.

Thanks, Cid. I do love the way this interweb thingy has allowed me to be a part of society once again. I sure as hell don’t need these people to “enfranchise” me.

So in typical Dem fashion, the poor marginalized victim they found to present the gays in the military conundrum to evil rethugs was a guy who made GENERAL.

I would love to ask him, as one of the jillions of straight guys who didn’t make flag/general (and got nowhere close), how exactly that held him back???
