Staying Together for the Planet
Never mind that it screws up children’s lives. Divorce is bad for the environment.
It’s one thing when all you are doing is impoverishing children, emotionally scarring them, using them as weapons against your spouse, dragging everyone through the courts, so that everyone can fully realize themselves and be free to do what they want rather than trapped in relationships that just aren’t working. But we’re talking about the planet, people!*
GORE! …. The Nobel Peace Laureate is going to need to get on this. Denying people the right to divorce would after all force them to reach some kind of accommodation, and that’s peace, right? Hey, I think I might be starting to get how Global Warming Jihad = Peace Prize.
* Before you start, yes, I know there are intolerable situations out there, and sometimes it is better for everyone involved, etc., and I am sure that is the case in each of the more than 1 million divorces in the United States each year. Here’s the New York Times with more on the dollars and sense of divorce.

This is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. The next step, of course, is to attack marriage as a planet-polluting institution. No marriage, no divorce, right? Just live in communes, and forego wasteful single-family homes with the accompanying consumer lifestyles. Why, the marriage ceremony alone is enough to kill a dozen planets, what with all the carbon emitted by opening champagne bottles, baking cakes, manufacturing miles of tulle and tuxedos, raising useless flowers for bouquets and centerpieces, and doing the chicken dance. It’s a wonder the human race isn’t dead already.

People had this figured out yonks ago. Wasn’t there an old saw that told us “two can live as cheaply as one”?
I’m afeared RebeccaH is correct though. It will get turned into an anti-marriage issue. Except for gay marriage of course, which is “sustainable”.

Since everything from hangnails to a bad mood is being linked to global warmism these days, why not divorce ?
It’s just part of the agenda of micro-orchestration of your life. The NYTimes (in particular) is rife with articles like that.
feel guilty, feel very, very guilty
However (à propos of something) I do think that many households containing small citizens might help the landfills out by cutting way (way !) down on the use of disposable diapers.
