Diyala Issues

Bombings prompt renewed crackdown as AQ announces anti-Awakening offensive.

AQ is trying to bring back the bad old days. The big question in Diyala is, who’s going to be cracking down with the Iraqis and do facts on the ground support the planned Diyala drawdown.  Presumeably Congress, now wavering on its principled withdrawal demands, supports operations to prevent al-Qaeda from regaining any footholds.

Politically, for the Dhim Cong, the only thing worse than winning in Iraq is being seen as the direct cause for losing. Of course, anyone with a memory that goes beyond the last five minutes, knows that they already own great responsibility for any problems in this war. Bush and the military for all their many mistakes, haven’t shunned their responsibility, but chose a new course to meet the problems. The Dhim Cong has persisted, “staying their course” regardless. The only course they could stay, given the constitution, was one that feeds the enemy and starves the troops. They’ve had no success starving the troops, but they’ve served up feasts to the enemy. “United we stand, divided we fall,” isn’t just a jingo (as touted by our history’s revisionists).

The success in Iraq has come despite it all, thanks to our military and the Iraqi people. No thanks to the Dhims, in Congress and out.

Thank you for that compare and contrast in “news” versions and reportage.

It’s like…why do I try to sense of anything I read anymore ?
