Grim Milestone

Missed by milestone-obsessed press. Chuck Simmins of Terrorist Death Watch:

Sometime on December 27, 2007, in a fierce gun battle in Al Kut, a milestone was reached.

The 20,000 AIF [Anti Iraqi Forces] terrorist was killed by our troops.

Terrorist Death Watch has all the numbers and the stories behind the numbers.

3,186 American troops have lost their lives in defense of our freedoms and those of the Iraqi people.

Regarding the latter number, somewhat lower than you’ll see in the regular tallies in news stories, it appears to be limited to directly combat-related deaths, a questionable judgment call as accidental deaths in support of operations may not merit a Purple Heart but are also in defense of freedom.   Suicides, a more complicated issue that may be deployment stress or combat related. Or maybe related to other underlying issues and pre-existing conditions.

In other news, 20,000 new admissions to the afterlife find that it is extremely hot there, and the thermostat seems to be broken.

WOW! That’s a total of 1,440,000 virgins issued in heaven. I’m betting they all look like Yasser Arafat.

And here’s wishing them many returns!
