Hillary’s quote upon topping Everest. “We knocked the bastard off.”
Good one. Mallory’s “Because it’s there” quote they always trot out was good, too. Very existential in a craggy, ponderous way. Debate continues to this day whether Mallory and Irvine knocked the bastard off in 1924, prior to the bastard knocking them off.
But everyone should be able to say “We knocked the bastard off” at least once in life, about something.
