Dad Steps Up
A slain Marine’s dad looks at antiwar Iraq vet Patrick Murphy’s performance in Congress, figures he could do better. AP:
Thomas Manion, a Republican who recently retired as a colonel in the Marine Reserves, is reacting to the anti-war stance of Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.). Manion’s son, 1st Lt. Travis L. Manion, 26, of Doylestown, Pa., died April 29 during his second Iraq tour while living with an Iraqi unit he was leading and training. He said his son’s death was a wake-up call to step forward and serve.
“I’ve learned that if you want to make something happen, you’ve got to get out on the playing field,” said Manion, 53.
Sounds like he already had a history of stepping forward and serving.

More power to him, and condolences on the loss of his son. In fact, condolences to all of us on the loss of someone precious to the nation.

There are those who do, and those who act as barriers to those who do. I’ll take the Marine over the lawyer every time.
P.S. I note that as a military lawyer in Iraq, this guy was still probably acting as a barrier to those who do.
