Big Game Sunday
Kicks off early with a play by Moss galpal. Herald’s Guregian own Moss interview had a little more than the pack got. Battery or gold-digging? Too early to tell. But Brady’s throw-to guy says we’re going to laugh when we find out what happened:
New England Patriots [team stats] star receiver Randy Moss yesterday acknowledged that a Florida woman who took out a restraining order against him suffered a “slight injury” in his company, but he insisted he did “nothing wrong” – a shocking incident that comes as the 17-0 team marches toward its fourth Super Bowl championship.
Moss’ stunning admission came in an exclusive interview with the Herald in which he admitted being with Rachelle Washington, 35, at her Fort Lauderdale residence on Jan. 6, and described what happened as an “accident.”
“I know what took place. I know what happened,” Moss said in response to a restraining order Washington took out against him on Monday. “What it was, it was a slight injury. All I can say is, it was a slight injury, and as a man, I was sorry. I was sincere.
“Well, whatever happened, whatever escalated, escalated.
“All I know is, this woman claimed I committed battery. What I know battery to be is you really physically beat someone up or do something really bad.
“Me physically hit a woman? No. Never.”
In papers filed Monday in Broward County court in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Washington alleged that Moss committed “a battery upon (her) causing serious injury,” and “refused to allow (her) to seek medical treatment.”
A temporary injunction for protection against dating violence was issued against the Pats receiver as a result of the allegations, ordering him to stay away from her until a hearing on the case Jan. 28 – the Monday before the Super Bowl.
Moss said Washington called him last week, threatening to go public with the allegations before the Patriots’ Jan. 12 playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars [team stats] unless he gave her a large sum of money.
“This woman threatened . . .with six figures, if we don’t pay, or else,” Moss told the Herald. “Either pay up, or we’re coming out right before your big-time playoff game. So my worry was how it was going to affect the team. I don’t care about me. I didn’t do nothing. I don’t have nothing to hide.”
Washington stated in her petition that she feared “retaliatory action” by Moss for seeking medical treatment. She did not specify in the court papers what kind of injury she allegedly suffered.
The Fort Lauderdale police department has no record of Washington filing a report on the Jan. 6 incident, said a spokeswoman. Police in Fort Lauderdale have no record of calls for service at her residence, where she moved last year. The Broward County Sheriff’s office has no record of calls for service to her previous address on the outskirts of Fort Lauderdale.
Washington claimed that she and Moss have had an “intimate relationship” since 1997. Moss acknowledged he’s known Washington for 11 years, but claimed they were only friends, nothing more. Moss has four children with longtime girlfriend Libby Offutt – daughters Sydney and Senali, and sons Thaddeus and Montigo.
“I didn’t do nothing wrong,” Moss insisted. “She’s (Washington) a friend of mine. We had no relationship. It was just a friendly gathering. The young lady got hurt, she really did. It was nothing serious. But when you all find out what it is, everybody’s going to laugh.”

Not that I have much confidence in the sterling character of sports figures these days, but I tend to believe Moss in this instance. Too often young men with a lot of fame and money and not much common sense are targets of predatory so-called “friends”.
