What Is Hip
Sunday morning deep thots compliments of West Coast hipster Driscoll, who weighs in on Kelly and Steyn re Sinatra, Wayne, Hope vs Fonda etal in The Birth of Cool. Whether or not Sinatra succumbed to irony or not could make someone’s dissertation, though. Kelly, in case you don’t know him, was very cool, unironic, made being square look hip, and died for things he believed in, Things Worth Fighting For. Buy his most excellent collected works, also Martyr’s Day, support his wife and children. Kelly was, for a very short time, a friend of mine.

Man, I still love ToP. I worked as a roadie for several concerts of theirs in the 70’s (sigh… that’s dating me) and always thought they were a step above most every band of that era.
