SOTU

Crittenden, with another shameless Chimpy plug, here.

It’s a Bushbashapalooza as Newsbusters rounds up, cocks an eye at the SOTU reax: MSNBC, Fibber McGee!; WaPo chief, bored, doesn’t trust failed prez;  CBS, CNN, Bush Redux, No Humanity.

Surber: Iraq … fourth? Tigerhawk: Yeah, but …

Powerline: A speech divided against itself.

Gateway with the Dem response: “Workers Unite! Socialism Now!”

Rich Lowry, NY Post, Battered Bush Battles On

January 29, 2008 — THERE was nothing valedictory about Presi dent Bush’s final State of the Union Ad dress last night. It was just the case for his remaining agenda - such as it is, given that he’s in his last year in office and the Democrats control Congress. Even when he doesn’t have much of it left, Bush still wants to spend political capital. Bush could be forgiven for yearning to deliver a State of the Union in something other than challenging circumstances. From the 9/11 attacks to the Iraq war to today’s rocky economy, he has - as the Chinese curse goes - lived in “interesting times.”

What was striking about the speech was how typically Bush it was, even in his reduced state. After seven years, he has the same belief in tax cuts and getting money into the hands of ordinary people, in compassionate initiatives for government to help the needy (including an interesting proposal for Pell Grants for poor kids “in failing public schools”), and in spreading freedom abroad.

This obstinacy or consistency is part of why he is so hated and so loved. But after last night’s somewhat uninspired replay of Bush’s greatest hits, it’s no wonder both parties are ready for change. Eight years is a long time, for any president.

Sure, give the man a rest.  I’m still a little mystified and frankly disgusted by the obsession some of the most privileged people on earth have with “hope” and “change.”  As if they had been hard done by.

Nah, you’ll hear the same old liberal, partisan Democrat crap you hear now.

You’ll hear about how evil Richard Nixon was (because his boys were spying on the Democrats…and rightly so), and you’ll hear about how saintly Roosevelt was (even though his boys put totally innocent people in concentration camps…including little children)…and you’ll be hearing it ’til the sun gutters out, if you live that long.
