Bad Fourth Quarter

Off the field as well as on, as three are shot dead in possible Superbowl dispute:

LARGO, Md. - Three men were shot dead when a fight broke out in a restaurant after a touchdown in the hotly contested Super Bowl, cops and witnesses said.

The shooting happened while the game was on the TVs in an Uno Chicago Grill, police said. A manager at a nearby restaurant told the Washington Post his employees heard gunshots about the time the New York Giants scored against the New England Patriots early in the fourth quarter, putting the Giants ahead, 10-7. They went on to win, 17-14.

Herald looks on the bright side. “Hey Boston, Cheer Up!”

While Giants sneer and Patriot Nation wails at how the mighty are fallen, one reader sees divine intervention: The wrath of the Football Gods. The bad omens should have made it obvious.

When did sports stop being fun and become a repository for anger for so many people? I love sports. Sports fans, not so much, and less each passing year it seems.

Another good reason to stay home with your television set on Superbowl Sunday.
