Facing the Dead
Gordon, marking the anniversary of his friends’ deaths, turns one hundred and one. Their CO, Badger Six, looks to history and turns to face the dead. Then he tells us how he and his men, living and dead, helped make it:
When the history of the Iraq War is written, through 2007, the “surge” and the Battle for Anbar will be at the forefront of that narrative … The ability of Coalition Forces, Iraqi Security Forces, and Iraqi civilians to move around the province were key to that success. That “assured mobility” as we Engineers like to say, was provided by the Route Clearance Teams of Team Badger and men like Holtom, Clev, and Werner.
This Acute Politics reader links to what Gordon wrote about it a year ago and will get you up to speed on what he’s doing now. Like Badger Six, he just can’t stay away.

To quote a commenter at one of the links quoting General George S. Patton, Jr……
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”

As long as we hold them in our hearts and remember, their death is not the last word. We remember them today and everyday.
Well said, Badger Six.
