Mugh’s Martyrdom Reax

Here’s one of 241 American mothers. Boston Herald

A Hezbollah terrorist’s violent death was overdue justice, said the Westwood mother of a Marine who was among his victims.

“Twenty-four years and four months since the bombing, and I feel justice is finally being served,” said Christine Devlin. “He got what he deserved.”

Lance Cpl. Michael Devlin was among 241 Marines killed in 1983 when a truck bomb sent by Imad Mughniyeh destroyed their barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, where they were on a peacekeeping mission. Mughniyeh was killed Tuesday by a car bomb in Syria. Hezbollah blames Israel.

Nine of the slain Marines were from Massachusetts. Devlin’s family plans a rememberence ceremony for him and the other fallen Marines the Sunday before Oct. 23, the 25th anniversary of the fatal blast.

“We’ll all remember Michael as a smiling happy kid, when he was 21, 22. He was fun, like most kids are,” Christine Devlin.

Here’s some Mideast reax. Turkish columnist Ahmet Varol celebrates a life of terrorism in the radical Islamist daily Vakit. MEMRI:

“[...] Some shahids have their names written in history. They deserve this honor for being milestones in Islam’s struggle and for being the torches shedding light on the path to victory. “Imad Mughniya, an important military commander of Hizbullah that defeated the army of the Zionist terrorists, has joined the long list of such shahids. “This murder documents once again that the occupier Zionist state is a terrorist state. These bandit terrorists tail their targets all around the world, trap them, and murder them. “Now [this state] has added another to its series of its murders, choosing to do so when the No. 1 man responsible for these murders, war minister Ehud Barak, was in Turkey.” Let us reiterate that touching his bloody hands and signing cooperation agreements with him brings no good to our country.

Sorry, my mistake. He’s decrying terrorism. Occupier Zionist state terrorism. Turkey, as you know, is a backward country lacking in freedom of speech. Try shouting on an Istanbul street corner that Turks slaughtered Armenians 90 years ago and see what happens. Don’t even think about saying anything bad about Ataturk. It’s a crime. Insulting Turkishness. So it’ll be interesting to see how many years Varol gets for insulting intelligence and decency. MEMRI’s got more Turks celebrating the shahid.

Meanwhile, in London, anti-Islamist daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat editor Tareq Al-Hamid criticizes Arabs who sponsored Imad Mughniya or who are lamenting his death. MEMRI reports that Al-Hamid expresses amazement that Syria gave asylum to a dangerous man whose hands were stained with the blood of Americans, Israelis and Arabs. Al-Hamid also criticizes Hamas for calling Mughniya a hero, and Bahrain for mourning a man who trained Shiite death squads in Iraq.

Thank you, Tareq. I am sure 241 American mothers and many, many others would be pleased to hear this from a Muslim, sadly sentiments we don’t hear enough. Where are the official Arab denunciations of Syria, for starters?

More at MEMRI: Iranian and Hezbo threats vs. Zionists, someone who’s threatening the Syrian intel chief, etc.

If Mughniya’s death had occurred in a Western nation, the truth would eventually come out, even if it took fifty years to declassify documents. In the Middle East? There’s no such thing as “truth”.
