Obama Flap

Over milprep, platoon-split remarks. It couldn’t possibly be true, it’s absolutely true. So who’s more unarmed, ill-prepared re Afghanistan, Iraq? US military or Obama? Ironic question:

ABC’s Tapper: Spin = Fact

MSNBC: Pentagon questions claim.

AP: Facts spun.

TPM: How dare the Pentagon discuss military matters? How dare political appointees engage in politics?

Andrew Sullivan: Left’s new hero, semi-literate Tapper!

Ace: Supposedly true but sounds like BS

Belmont Club: Yeah, five years ago. Meanwhile, NATO, how about a hand?

Gateway: Messianic vid and a roundup

Protein Wisdom: Meanwhile, in other Obamist security failure claims …

My quick take. I have no doubt hoops have been jumped through, there have been equipment shortages. The military is stretched. The notion that the Army is broken and can’t handle the conflicts it is currently engaged in, which is the larger point the anecdote is all about, is nonsense.  Anyway, this is a great moment for everyone to get on board with expanding and re-equipping the military, as well as funding troops in the field, now that the anti-war camp’s darling has come out for it.  No more political footsie re war funds.

Yet again Obama is exposed as the shallow, empty suit he is. A more thoughtful man, a deeper man, would have used the story to first emphasize the ingenuity of the men and women of our armed forces, and then the importance of making sure they have what they need to do their jobs. The slam on Bush might have been implicit, especially to the Dem base, but did not need to be stated outright.

Can you imagine what would have happened had McCain been in the debate? I think he would have made Obama look foolish, especially if Obama chose to argue with him and get himself into an even deeper hole.

At this point, I’m as thoroughly sick of Obamessiah as I am of the Clintons. Nine months until the election? Gah!

“Nine months”? You know that could mean a re-release of two films of yore.

‘Obama was making a point about what he called “the single most important foreign policy decision of this generation, whether or not to go to war in Iraq.” His point was that in opposing the war he “showed the judgment of a commander in chief.’

Yeah, he’s showing the same judgement that our leadership showed in the years leading up to 9/11/01. Over and over again they refused to deal decisively with terrorists and state sponsors of terrorism (like Iraq), and that’s what got 3,000 of our guys killed. Osama proposes more of the same. The guy is an idiot.

As for “going to war”, we did that in 1990, and we’ve been fighting the Iraqis ever since. Despite the vivid fantasies of leftoid nitwits (like Obama), we didn’t go to war with Iraq in 1990, spend eight years bombing them under Bill Clinton, then go to war again under George Bush II. It’s the same old war, we’ve been fighting since the Iraqis invaded Kuwait, and I want a POTUS who is smart enough (and honest enough) to understand what the actual situation is. And, that lets Obama out.

‘They also didn’t have the humvees they were supposed to have both before deployment and once they were in Afghanistan, the Captain says.’

‘”We should have had 4 up-armored humvees,” he said. “We were supposed to. But at most we had three operable humvees, and it was usually just two.”‘

Yeah, units in a war are rarely up to their TO&E strengths. What else is new?
