Dude Not Like a Lady
And looking less like one everyday, according to his complaint.
BOSTON (AP) — A killer who sued to have a sex change claims her body is becoming more masculine again because she’s being denied treatment in prison as she awaits a ruling in her bid for the surgery. Michelle Kosilek, formerly known as Robert, said that for months she has not been allowed to have court-approved hair-removal treatment or access to a specialist to discuss her testosterone levels.
I’m not sure why the Associated Press insists on calling this man “she.” Call me old-fashioned, but if you’ve got a Y chromosome, I’m going to have to go with “man” no matter what you did with your stuff.
It’s also unclear why the AP neglected to mention that he wants the state to pay for the operation. It does include this rather snippy observation, however.
The trial lasted on and off from May 2006 until March 2007, with expert testimony from 10 doctors, psychiatrists and psychotherapists. An Associated Press review last year found that the corrections department and its outside health care provider had spent more than $52,000 on experts to testify about the surgery, which would cost about $20,000.
This appears to bother the AP, although the actual cost concern is tucked in the next graph.
Though testimony ended almost a year ago, Wolf has given no indication when he will rule in the case, which is being closely watched nationwide by advocates for other inmates who want to undergo a sex change. Transgender inmates in other states have sued prison officials, but none has persuaded a judge to order a sex-change operation.
Pay for one, you have to pay for them all. Then you have to segregate them from the other men. Or, because they will then be women, you have to put them in with the … uh … women.

It seems to me that someone in prison for murder has forfeited the right to anything but food, a bed, and routine health care. That’s why it’s called “prison”.

I feel sorry for the guy. Imagine having to wake up everyday, look in the mirror and think, “My God, I’ve become Ward Churchill!”

That is seriously scary.
Since when is the State responsible for someone’s gender?

‘“I would not want to continue existing like this,” Kosilek testified in June 2006.’
Then die.

Iirc, due to federal judges playing activist and not being able to separate functional reality from a brain fart…
Convicts get first dibs on organ transplants, can not be denied surgery for a whole laundry list of personal choice reasons, etc etc.
There are men and women who commit violent crimes specifically to go to prison where they’ll have access to such things ahead of any non convict.

Oh, my. Lose the glasses, darling, they’re hideous.
What she needs more than surgery is a makeover on Queer Eye for The Convicted Guy.

Forgive me for inserting the personal here, but I have very serious health problems which have drained provisions made for retirement. Much of the cause behind this has to do with politicians dicking around with health care, which has made providing for myself so expensive that I cannot afford it. Even so, I do not consider my need a claim on someone else’s wallet. But I must pay taxes to pay for this confused bastard to have elective medical procedures when I can barely afford the most basic care I require to sustain my life? I don’t think so.
