No Place for Hate

In the immigration debate. That’s why one anti-illegal-alien group is telling this watchdog group to stick a cork in it. via Herald:

NEW YORK - Anti-illegal alien sentiment is fueling nationwide increases in the number of hate groups and the number of hate crimes targeting Latinos, a watchdog group claimed.

…

But the most prominent of the organizations on the list, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, vehemently rejected the “hate group” label, and questioned SPLC’s motives. FAIR said the group is using smear tactics to boost donations and stifle legitimate debate.

“Their banner may be ‘Stop the hate’ but it’s really ‘Stop the debate,’ ” said Dan Stein of FAIR. “Apparently you can’t even articulate an argument for immigration reform without being smeared.”

Other versions of this article curiously cast the issue as “anti-immigration sentiment” as opposed to “anti-illegal alien sentiment,” which is the kind of misconception, along with the presumption of prejudice against Latinos, simply because the scofflaws are predominantly of Hispanic origin, that is causing SPLC to mistake a desire for law and order for hatred and racism. Immigration is one of the things that makes this country great. Rampant uncontrolled illegal border crossing and government policies that encourage it is straining social services, providing a conduit for drug traffickers and other criminals and leads to the victimization of thousands upon thousands of poor, largely Hispanic people. Why would anyone who is concerned about poverty and victimization want to encourage that?

Where would the ACLU and other organs of the left be without feeble groups like the KKK, a collection of elderly, feeble trailer-trash denizens who have about as much influence in the country as Druids? Or the Aryan Brotherhood, nearly all of whose members are in prison and will be there until they’re old enough to join the KKK. In the absence of any real threat from fascism or other favored leftist bugbears, these pathetic creatures are inflated by ACLU publicists and others into a menacing threat that must be quelled lest the jackboots begin marching again. Now they’re throwing in groups like FAIR which are petitioning the government to secure the border. These ethnic grievance groups will stop at nothing to inflame divisions and thereby swell their treasuries.
