Tiananmen Square 1989

A great moment. But we all know how that business ended.

CNN: Dalai Lama says he’s powerless to stop protests.

NYT: Some Tibetan exiles reject “Middle Way.”

AFP: Most Wanted list out.

NDTV: Tibetans storm into embassy in Delhi.

Globe and Mail: PRC admits shooting protestors in “self-defense.”

Reuters: Tibetans say several died in latest riots.

AP: 80 truckloads of troops to Tibet.

Telegraph: Pelosi challenges the world over Tibet. Dictator-enabling speaker dons a different kind of scarf this time.

AFP: Tibet crisis won’t dissuade Bush from attending Olympics. Bushes have a long history of being soft on the PRC, despite being able to “speak very frankly.” Here’s to a very frank and open discussion.

Maybe this has been posted already but where are all those freedom fighters with the Free Tibet bumper stickers? Here is a golden opportunity to put their money where their mouth ….er…sticker is. I’ve observed the Free Tibet stickers are usually accompanied by a Out of Iraq sticker, War is not the answer, and the always popular peace symbol sticker or some derogative comment about President Bush.

China is a thug nation with no scruples. Why is anybody surprised? In a lot of ways it uses the old Soviet Russia play book (natch - their still commies at heart). The break up of China can’t come soon enough.

FREE TIBET bumper stickers are so popular with that certain type of liberal because they know there’s absolutely no chance of us actually doing anything about it. So, it’s 100% safe, you know? It’s a statement of moral superiority, not a statement that they actually want to do something to make it happen.

They’re saying, “Hey, I’m a caring liberal! I want to FREE TIBET! Just don’t ask me to do or support anything that might, you know, actually accomplish that! Because if my country is actually doing something, I’m against it! US OUT OF IRAQ!”

I’m glad Pelosi is giving them her support, as limited and almost meaningless as it is. I guess there’s still enough of a nothing-to-do-with-America glow around it for her to do this, although she better watch out. If she gets America involved, REALLY involved, she’s just going to buzz kill the whole thing for the long term FREE TIBETers!

Also, I want to commend the Dalai Lama on not giving her the traditional white scarf symbolizing purity and sincerity. Apparently he knows our politicians too well!

    Heh.

SECDEF: Free Tibet? Righty ho. Uh, 10th Mountain, saddle up. Whiteman AFB, lets get those bombers going. Send in the Marines.

FREE TIBETer: B’but, what are you doing?

SECDEF: Uh, I’m freeing Tibet. That’s what your bumper sticker says, the one right beside the McGovern for President one.

FREE TIBETer: Whoa dude, serious party foul! Hell no, we won’t go, we don’t want your racist war, hey hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today? There weren’t any Tibetans in our Civil War. No blood for Yurts. Not in my name. International Answer. Code Pink.

FREE TIBET bumpers stickers. Right up there with FRY MUMIA bumpers stickers.

Oops! I meant “FREE MUMIA”, of course.
