It’s the Clintons, Stupid

Exasperated Politico, scratching its head over the indomitable Energizer Clinton, examines the “Clinton myth,” informs us the media is too much invested in Clinton to admit her defeat, does the math that incontrovertibly shows Obama just squeaking past her, talks about how all she has left is “electability” and the hope of an Obama disaster … brushing quickly over the fact that he may, in terms of electability, have just experienced that … and wonders how long this thing can possibly go on.  Politico fails to observe the obvious answer in front of Politico’s nose. Until it’s over.

One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.

People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet

It’s called Planet Clinton. Politico goes on to talk about elephants in the room but neglects to mention the biggest elephant of all. The Clintons themselves, both of them, who will fight to the bitter end, because all those negative numbers are still numbers they can turn around.  Doesn’t matter what they trample in the process. Politico talks to insiders, declares the bell has rung in the mind of notoriously fickle American voters, but misses the most fundamental rule of American sports and politics, rule No. 1 in the Clinton playbook: It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Far be it from me to defend my own wretched profession, but as collectively and individually chowderheaded as the media can be, the media also knows that rule. The media also knows a good trainwreck when it sees one, and knows no one can pry their eyes off it.

Even the Democratic stalwarts, the superdelegates, don’t want this house-trashing party to end and will cheer on Hillary’s lampshade dance. All the hot chicks of the media are ogling them, after all. There’s plenty of beer in the keg, the wee hours of the morning are early yet, they might get lucky. Even Obama has to be loving the epic struggle, because he knows you don’t get to be an epic hero without one. Who but the widest-eyed Obamite could possibly want this to end?

Apologies for the wild, rampaging mix of metaphors, but Politico started it.

Welcome Instapundit, Surberistas, etal. Always good to see you, come on in. We were just enjoying the vast pop culture conspiracy. You’ve gotta ask yourself, are you one of 8 in 10 Americans? Work with me people, envision a kinder, gentler Superpower. Oh, there will be a great and terrible wringing of hands.  Meanwhile, for something completely different, you might want to check the EuroRace.

    Jules,

The Clintons will roll over anyone and anything to get what they want. That fact makes for great theater and if it structurally damage the Democrat Party, who cares? Certainly not the Clintons.

  2. Fatty Bolger Says:

The problem here, as I see it, is not with the nomination battle, but with Politico. It seems obvious that the writers are mainly concerned with the damage a long, drawn out fight for the nomination might do to the Democrat’s chances of winning the presidency in November. They want it to be over now. Should that really be their concern? For “new media” they certainly seem to have the same priorities and agenda as most of the old media.

  3. The_Real_JeffS Says:

The MSM has a hand in this as well. As GHS159, this political throat cutting makes for great theater, and that means news, lots of news. The media “elite” aren’t going to shoot this cash cow, and throw away the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow; they’d rather let the chips fall where they may, under the guise of “May the best (wo)man win!”

    (Jeez! Metaphor mixing is contagious!)

I believe I counted 9 in that last paragraph, Jules. I take my hat off to you, no one can shine your shoes when it comes to painting a picture with metaphors.

  7. Robert Says:

I have said it before and I will say it again. The Clintons will start a race war if they think they need to do it to get the nomination. They are the original narcissists. They don’t give a flying #$%&@ about anybody else, including the Democrat party. The would sell the country to the Chinese Red Army, if they thought it would help them. Oh! Wait. They already did that.

If they don’t win the Clintons will leave the Democrat party looking like Wile E. Coyote after the Road Runner leaves him holding a burning stick of Dynamite.

Say, I am going to the kitchen to make some popcorn. Would you go out to the garage and get a six-pack?

  8. JorgXMcKie Says:

I don’t know which I find more amusing, the MSM and Dems discovering that the VRWC was basically correct about the Clintons, or the idea that arguments like Politico’s strongly suggest that, given what they know about the Clintons, *Obama* should withdraw “for the good of the party”. The Clintons are giving the Democratic Party a choice: their way or destruction. And they mean it. Which part of this equation don’t the Politico types understand? I suppose they’re just being obdurately dense about reality, thus continuing a long Lefty tradition. I mean, some of them are still arguing that Stalin wasn’t so bad, right?

  9. saltydog Says:

I’m surprised that anyone is surprised. The Clinton’s are sly shysters, who will steal — whether it is the dinner service from the White House, or an election. What will be interesting is to see just how much they get away with this go-round.

  10. Diggs Says:

    Wait, Stalin was bad?
That would mean that the New York Times has been lying in order to move a Lefty agenda into America since the 1930!

CBS Exposes Hillary’s Exagerations on Foreign Policy

    This is absolutely hillaryous!

    More here:
The Clinton campaign says Senator Hillary Clinton may have “misspoke” recently when she said she had to evade sniper fire when she was visiting Bosnia in 1996 as first lady.
She has been using the episod…
