“This Is Not a Crackpot Church”

Maybe not, but Obama’s still saying he never heard the crackpot remarks.  Politico. I’m having trouble keeping track, what he is supposed to have heard or not heard in the last 20 years, and exactly how we’re supposed to be expected to believe he didn’t hear it. Who cares? Well, here’s a conservative commentator smitten with Obama’s tale and the telling of it.  Kicker says you have to respect the tale even if you don’t respect the politics. Sure, fine. Except that the politics are abominable. Then, there’s that crackpot thing.

UPDATE: Crackpot church’s new pastor says national attention to Wright’s crackpot remarks was a “lynching” just like  Jesus got. Media = Romans. That’s very complimentary but I’d say that’s giving the media more credit than the media is due. America’s media legions couldn’t engineer their way out of a paper bag. Stay tuned. I have a feeling sooner or later the new crackpot is going to tell us who played the Jews in this passion play.

In other bizarre Chicago church news, go-to Gateway brings us a blood-splashing anti-war protest in a Catholic Church. “Catholic Schoolgirls Against the War” has to be some Goth’s ill-conceived performance art, mockery of anti-war protests. Second City skit? Maybe a diabolical Bushian plot to discredit the anti-war movement, make the anti-war movement look stupid(er). I dunno.

Kristol at NYT re that speech:

… I didn’t shudder when Obama said he could no more disown Reverend Wright than he could disown the black community. I did think this statement was unfair to many in the black community, and especially to all those pastors who have resisted the temptation to appeal to their parishioners in the irresponsible and demagogic manner of Reverend Wright.

But ambitious men sometimes do a disservice to the best in their own communities. And Barack Obama is an ambitious man.

The only part of the speech that made me shudder was this sentence: “But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now.”

As soon as I heard that, I knew what we’d have to endure. I knew that there would be a stampede of editorial boards, columnists and academics rushing not to ignore race. A national conversation about race! At long last!

So Obama is the embodiment of the American dream. Good for him. But lots of people are, and their wives don’t express shame of America, and their beloved religious mentors don’t damn America in God’s name. It’s those aspects that are extremely troubling in a man who wants to be president.

here’s a liberal who’s less smitten. The subtext is definitely that Obama hates white America

What does it mean that some of the characters in this book (Dreams from My Father) – whom one would otherwise assume to be important people in his life – are, as he admits in the introduction, composites?

It means that the purported autobiographical work is, in truth, a work of fiction.

As some of the real life individuals on whom the “composites” are based have noted.

I’ve not read the book, but the father (the source of the dreams) sounds like a real skank who took little or no interest in his own son and had no role in his life beyond procreation.

Maybe Barack’s entire shtick is based on coming to terms with the wholly self-centered and always absent father.

Maybe the bombastic and egomaniacal Reverend JWright cannot be condemned as he is the father substitute.

i listened as one commentator (a black minister) said that, while he didn’t agree with what Wright said, he could understand it and he understood why Obama stayed with Wright’s church. He and his wife are adults, after all, and capable thinking for themselves, no matter what Wright says. I’ll give him that.

So, what about his little girls? Does he and his wife explain to his daughters that they should not listen to certain sermons that spew hatred for their country and for white people? Or do they allow this kind of injustice to be absorbed as truth?

It doesn’t matter whether one believes that Obama and his wife heard the sermons we’ve heard. You can’t tell me that this avowed mentor and friend kept Obama ignorant of his beliefs. Obama didn’t need to hear the sermons to know about Wright’s hatred for this country (and why) or his gross racism (and why). If, after 20 years, he wasn’t able to help Wright come to terms with this gross injustice, what evidence do we have that he is the man to bring whites and blacks together in understanding and conciliation? Where is there any evidence that this dialog on race in this country going to be anything more than more whining on the part of some blacks, and more guilt laid upon a white community that has had no responsibility for slavery? How is the white community to defend itself against accusations that they are responsible for giving Aids to the black community? Or drugs? Or any of the rest of the insane accusations shouted from Wright’s pulpit? Where is there, anywhere, evidence that the blacks represented by Obama and Wright take any responsibility for their own words and actions?

As for the new pastor? Same as the old. The congregation is rancid with hate. I would suggest that those responsible for hiring least make sure that the person being vetted understand that Jesus wasn’t lynched.

check out the latest from Obama’s church. Straight from the “Pastor’s Page”, the Israeli plan to build an “ethnic bomb” to kill blacks and Arabs.

How does Obama get around this one? Claim he can’t read?
