How Do You Like Your Trainwreck?

Plans for Al Gore to take the Democratic presidential nomination as the saviour of a bitterly divided party are being actively discussed by senior figures and aides to the former vice-president.

The bloody civil war between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has left many Democrats convinced that neither can deliver a knockout blow to the other and that both have been so damaged that they risk losing November’s election to the Republican nominee, John McCain.

Former Gore aides now believe he could emerge as a compromise candidate acceptable to both camps at the party’s convention in Denver during the last week of August.

Two former Gore campaign officials have told The Sunday Telegraph that a scenario first mapped out by members of Mr Gore’s inner circle last May now has a sporting chance of coming true.

Mr Gore, who was Bill Clinton’s vice-president and has since won a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for his work on green issues, remains an influential figure eight years after he beat George W Bush in the popular vote but lost the White House after the Florida recount fiasco.

I think my favorite part … aside from the whole thing, that is … is the idea that replacing the Hero of Tuzla and the change-hoping bigot buddy with an exaggerating doomsayer somehow gets this train back on the rails. 

Meanwhile, Obama magnanimously declares Hill “should be able to compete, and her supporters should be able to support her for as long as they are willing or able.” Don’t worry, Obie. She will.

   Even worse, Don, Gore would have completely skipped th primary elections. Setting aside the legality of the matter (e.g., candidates have to declare themselves by a certain date in most states), what about the basic rules of the DNC? There are all those other delegates, most of whom are at least morally and ethically* obliged to vote for either The Messiah™ or Billary….not Lord Goreacle™. That would be genuine disenfranchisement for just about every single registered Democrat.

   Of course, Lord Goreacle™ could always court the write in vote. Heh! What fun that would be……

   Still, it’s possible that Lord Goreacle™ could indeed step in as the “savior” of the DNC. It’s just that I think that the cure is worse than the disease.

   But I have to wonder if He will actually put His name into the hat. Has His ego been pumped up sufficiently by all the envirotards to face another potential defeat? Global warming isn’t the closed case He thinks it is, regardless of how many yes-men are clamoring in His ears. And the election is anything but a done deal. The Obama-Clinton Civil War ought to prove that.

   Not to mention that Lord Goreacle™ would face the wrath of the Clintonistas if he tried this. You think it’s ugly now? Wait until victory is snatched from Billary’s jaws.
