I do think newspapers in general do a much better job of this than other media. The "Chinese wall" for television news and magazines would be better named the "Swiss wall" (it's full of holes, get it?) Ah, but there's that special price the NYT gave moveon.org... but then, that was just politics, not some distasteful corporate advertising tie-in. That would *never* be tolerated!
