Surrenderist: Lose Big
Lose ugly. That’s the voice of Democratic wartime leadership. If at first you don’t entirely screw it up, keep going!
“I think the election has to run its course,” Pelosi said. “I think that for all that I have said about respecting the will of the people that the inference to be drawn from that is that we have to continue the election in terms of hearing from the people.
OK, it’s not exactly what she said, but that’s what I’m taking from the Heroine of Capitol Hill, whose non-binding resolutions and withdrawal votes succeeded spectacularly … in turning the anti-war camp against her. Sounds like she’s employing the same strategy here. Set unrealistic goals, and play both sides against yourself.
“I do think that it is important for us to get behind one candidate a long time before we go to the Democratic National Convention if we hope to win in November,” Pelosi added.
That works. Let the election play itself out, as long as everyone gets behind one candidate long before the election. There’s some Moebius logic in there. It’s kind of like supporting the troops, while cutting all support for them.
Surber: Swamp drainer.
