Catch of the Day
Surber reeled it in. Boston Globe’s unironically titled “Political Intelligence” blog with a post headlined, “Teresa welcomes Michelle to first wives’ club.” Teresa is Kerry’s second wife.
Hey, I just gaffed a couple of gaffes myself. The post makes reference to Teresa’s “late ex-husband,” who would be more correctly and politely referred to simply as her late husband. They were never exes. Meanwhile, the post itself notes that neither Teresa nor Michelle have been First Ladies, further complicating the question of what this “first wives” thing is about. There are probably more double errors in there, but that’s as much time as I’m spending on this.
No, wait. I’m not getting out of this till someone tells me what this means:
“In our society, we tend to be so numerical — everything is inches or dollars or whatever,” said Heinz Kerry, a former Republican who has proven an occasionally forceful presence in Pennsylvania politics, as she made the case against those who discount Barack Obama as inexperienced. “I know the most important things are not just what you know but what you do with what you know.”
What you do with what you know can’t be measured in inches or dollars or whatever? I dunno. Crueler commentators have remarked that what John Kerry did with what he knew about her $600 million was marry it. But maybe she’s talking about how some people are suggesting a few inches of Illinois real estate translated into mucho dollar value for Obama, which is a great example of knowingly doing.
Uh oh, NBC’s First Read lands another one: Obama’s like both her husbands?
Fausta: Only in America could a millionnaire Ivy League senator be considered the underdog. What a great country.

Maybe, by “First Wives”, they mean they’re the first wives of politicians who actually and publicly ran on a platform comprised of hot air?
Without being mortally embarrassed, I mean.

I believe Heinz Kerry’s obsession with inches and dollars is a reference to that old saying: “You can’t be too rich or too thin.” I don’t think she’s aware of the irony.

Obsessing over money is so TEDIOUS, my dear. Oh, be a doll and pass the caviar, would you?
