It’s The Mullahs, Stupid
Petraeus is expected to tell Congress our partner-for-peace, Iran, took part in the fight in Basra. Times of London:
IRANIAN forces were involved in the recent battle for Basra, General David Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq, is expected to tell Congress this week.
Military and intelligence sources believe Iranians were operating at a tactical command level with the Shi’ite militias fighting Iraqi security forces; some were directing operations on the ground, they think.
Petraeus intends to use the evidence of Iranian involvement to argue against any reductions in US forces.
Don’t be silly. Clearly this calls for another round of demands to negotiate with Iran and exit Iraq.

Yeah, I used this earlier, but it’s still appropriate:
“LA LA LA LA LA I HAVE MY FINGERS IN MY EARS AND I CAN’T HEAR YOU! LA LA LA LA LA”

An Inconvenient Truth?

I don’t like the fact that the General in charge of the war in Iraq has to come over and appear in front of the poseurs, finger shakers, complainers and pontificators comprising the US Congress.
And be charged with convincing them that Iran has venal designs in the region.
Which any brain dead 3rd grader should understand by now.
Did Eisenhower or McArthur ever have to sit around yakking to the suits ?
I realize that even now, before actual testimony next week, that said poseurs are already preparing their personal, self aggrandizing diatribes on “the war”, but still wish the good General and Mr. Crocker might be spared such encounters.

What he should do, is to say that he’s busy fighting the Iranians, and to please carry on the meeting without him. Then, when they cut the defense budget, in the middle of a war, the US can finally fire all of them!
This is of course, only in a non-absolut world.
