Kim Cheesed

Commie dictator rallies the troops in ongoing snit over new ROK hardliner’s hard line. Yonhap News:

SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) — North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has visited a military unit, the North’s state media reported Sunday, amid growing discontent with the new South Korean conservative government and rising tensions across the inter-Korean border.

Kim, also the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, routinely visits military units, but his latest inspection draws attention with its sensitive timing. Over the past week, Pyongyang unleashed a series of biting verbal attacks against South Korean President Lee Myung-bak for the first time since his inauguration in late February.

Seoul experts have said the confrontation was led by the North Korean military.

“He expressed satisfaction over the fact that all the soldiers of the company have acquired high military technology and combat capacity enough to beat back the enemy’s invasion at a single stroke,” the Korean Central News Agency said in its English report of Kim’s visit to the KPA Unit 350. The KCNA report, monitored in Seoul, was dated April 5 but dispatched on the 6th.

The AP had him calling them “invincible.” No cruel references to the KJI character’s accent in “Team America: World Police,” please.*

Newly elected Lee has been annoying the Stalinist throwback North a lot lately. Chosunilbo:

North Korean official media on Tuesday denounced President Lee Myung-bak as a “traitor” in a new twist to increasing attempts to ratchet up tensions between the two sides. The Workers Party¡¯s Rodong Shinmun newspaper also rejected Lee’s plan to help North Korea raise annual per-capita gross national income to US$3,000 if the communist country scraps its nuclear programs and opens up to the outside world as an “anti-unification declaration.”

It was the first time in eight years the North Korean media denounced a South Korean president by name. A Cheong Wa Dae official said this was ¡°inappropriate.¡± But another presidential official said South Korea will not specifically respond until after the April 9 general election and the Seoul-Washington summit.

In a commentary entitled “The South Korean Authorities Will Reap Only Destruction from Confrontation¡± with North Korea, the daily mentioned Lee’s name as many as 49 times, calling him an “impostor”, a “fraud” and a “traitor.” “The Lee regime will be held fully accountable for the irrevocable catastrophic consequences to be entailed by the freezing of inter-Korean relations and the disturbance of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.”

It slammed Lee’s ¡°denuclearization-opening-3,000¡± plan as ¡°reactionary pragmatism.¡± ¡°Even a boiled cow¡¯s head would burst into loud laughter,¡± it said.

Charming punctuation Chosunilbo’s. Charming boiled cow’s head metaphor North Korea’s.

Lee also pissed off the Kimmists recently by suggesting future humanitarian aid to the North should be linked to humanitarian gestures by the North, such as the release of POWs dating back to the Korean War and other detainees, including hundreds of seized fishermen.

I’ll admit I’m as big a sucker for a good boiled cow head guffaw as the next guy, but I’m starting to like Lee.

* OK, OK, here it is:

Kim Jong Il: Now you see, the changing of the worrd is inevitabre!
Lisa: I’m sorry, it’s what?
Kim Jong Il: Inevit, inevitabre.
Lisa: One more time.
Kim Jong Il: [shouts] Inevitabre! Things are inevitabrey going to change! Goddamnit, open your fucking ears!

I have noticed in the past that Communist states have more of an affinity for Microsoft products, I can’t say exactly why but it is true. I have been to Vietnam, North Korea, China … I guess I need to make plans for a trip to see El Comandante before he kicks off.

Oh yeah, the NK’s are nothing like the media here presents them, they really crack me up, I mean, a whole country of armed Elvis impersonators! … and boy, can they party.
