They would never hire those people in the first place.

  2. RebeccaH Says:

Yes. Apparently it is too much to ask.

It is far too much to ask. In fact, it’s a direct contradiction.

A person who knows what he or she is talking about will, more or less by definition, have worked (and made money) in the field. This is defined by the Press as “conflict of interest”. Only the ignorant may produce valid opinions devoid of “bias”.

The result of this careful vetting procedure is that you may assume, to a close first approximation, that any opinion advanced by the Press is based upon triumphantly wilful ignorance.

I know I am generalizing, because there are some truly world changing journalists. But for the most part the only thing they know is who they want for public office. All other knowledge is therefore made subservient to that end through the clever arrangement of words on a page.

Journalism’s stated aim for many years has been to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable” or some such. While there is a hint of noble altruism in that stance, what ends up in practice is a sort of Marxist world view that divides everyone into winners and losers, each undeserving of their relative fates.

Darn, all the obvious answers are already used up. I gotta stop staying up so late!

  6. SoldiersDad Says:

A person that knows that they are talking about generally charges for their services. Personally, I don’t want someone that knows about car brakes…that charges $3/hour working on my car.

Of course…the NY/LA TImes isn’t doing something as important as installing brakes on my car. They are merely distributing bird cage liner. I really don’t care that the guy who writes whatever nonsense that the bird will read is only being paid $3 an hour.

    It’s rhetorical question, right?
