Age of Discrimination
Murtha re McCain: He’s too old to be president. McCain re Murtha: Shut up, you old geezer. OK, that’s not exactly how he said it. Reuters:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain rejected criticism on Wednesday by a 75-year-old Democrat that he is too old at age 71 to be president.
Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. John Murtha, a fierce critic of the Iraq war that McCain supports, told an AFL-CIO union gathering that McCain was too old to be president and that the presidency was “no old man’s job.”
It appeared to have been the first major attempt by the Democrats to try to use McCain’s age against him. If elected in November, he would be the oldest person ever elected to a first presidential term.
McCain, who turns 72 in August, dismissed Murtha’s comments in a CNN interview.
“All I can tell you is that I admire and respect Jack Murtha. Speak for yourself Jack. I’m doing fine,” McCain said.
That’s nice of him to be polite like that. I guess this means the Dems are OK with age discrimination. But you’d think a 75-year-old would be old enough to know better than to disparage a younger man as too old, when the doddering old fool faces competition from a younger man himself.

Seriously though, have you noticed how we elect fairly vibrant guys to office and they leave old old men? It certainly happened to Carter, Reagan, GWHB, Clinton, and it looks like it’s happening to Bush. What would become of McCain, who’s already there?

blogagog, your point is granted but you’ll also notice that the medical policy is the best in the world so he’ll make it fine and dandy. We can ascertain this by contemplating the case of Vice-President Cheney who went into office with a bypass already having been performed, and who’s probably going to be inviting presidential hopefuls on hunting trips for years to come. As his minister of protocol says, they’ll always be at his right hand.
