Little Nuthouse on the Prairie
Too bad there are tormented kids, elderly perverts and brainwashed women involved. Otherwise this perfect storm of American idiocy would be funny. Lawyers mob courthouse in battle over wackjob American throwback cult. via Mlive:
SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) — A court hearing to decide the fate of the 416 children swept up in a raid on a West Texas polygamous sect descended into farce Thursday, with hundreds of lawyers in two packed buildings shouting objections and the judge struggling to maintain order.
The case — clearly one of the biggest, most convoluted child-custody hearings in U.S. history — presented an extraordinary spectacle: big-city lawyers in suits and mothers in 19th-century, pioneer-style dresses, all packed into a courtroom and a nearby auditorium connected by video.
At issue was an attempt by the state of Texas to strip the parents of custody and place the children in foster homes because of evidence they were being physically and sexually abused or in imminent danger of abuse by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a renegade Mormon splinter group suspected of forcing underage girls into marriage with older men.

I think that we need to deprogram them and reprogram them into the official state way of thinking. Either that or it’s Waco.
Actually, if they can find a crime that’s been committed then arrest the men who are committing the crime but leave the kids to their mothers. I understand that they feel that they have to destroy the lives of the kids in order to save them but it’ll work as good here as it did in ‘Nam. I’m being honest here, this is starting to sound like Waco. Just a different level of government.
Did they find that solid informant yet?

I used to be a libertarian on this issue. As I have learned more about Islam and the effect of polygamy on Islamic societies, I have come around to the view that polygamy is very harmful to civil society, and that it needs to be suppressed vigorously.

…leave the kids to their mothers
I am torn between the heavy handedness of the Texas authorities and the horror of small children (or even big children) being ripped from the only family they know.
Reportedly, the men who oversee the compound use the threat of removing children and wives to enforce conformity among the other men in the compound.
The women are decidedly odd and the modest clothing/sexual availability at puberty to hoary old men is way too reminiscent of Islam.
But in no way should the mothers be prevented from seeing their children, and I couldn’t imagine that a mother’s own children shouldn’t be with her.

Any woman who allows her 13 year old daughter to marry and consumate the marriage to anyone is unfit to be a parent. If the state decides to release the children back into the custody of their mothers, a lot of them would seek another compound somewhere else, I fear.

Good Elroy, now that we have standards that are set down, let’s start rounding up anyone who might try to find a different compound and strip their kids. Of course you’ll have to reprogram the kids so they won’t miss their mothers but that shouldn’t be a problem for someone as well educated as you (you futuristic thing, you). Since there are so many of them in a situation that has a minimal chance of success (adoption of older kids is almost nil) you could start something like an orphanage so they could be cared for as if they were at home by a loving ersatz mommy who would tailor their care based on the child’s idiosyncrasies and needs. /sarc (just in case.)
BTW1, How does one say “The state is greatest in Arabic?” Child services akbar?
BTW2, (whispering) lets not say anything about Waco, those kids had to be destroyed in order to save them… Not like these kids at all.
BTW3, Did they ever find the one who started it? No? Shame, that could C a lot of A.
BTW4, Jules is there such a thing as preview in Word Press?

Throwback isn’t the right word. Mormon polygamists during the 1800s never married 13 year olds. These are apostate fakes pretending to be throwbacks. They shouldn’t be allowed to call themselves Mormon or to use the name of Jesus Christ on grounds of slander and counterfeiting.
Keep the kids in foster care, and let the mothers know that they aren’t married under the law and that they’ll get their kids back when they start living by the law.

Yeah, the Indian schools were good too. Let’s go get the rest of the kids, they’ll have a brighter future with out their mothers. /sarc
