Umbrage Taken

As a professional tabloid journalist, I take offense at the suggestion that there is something wrong with what I do for a living. The Nation:

We, the undersigned, deplore the conduct of ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and Charles Gibson at the Democratic Presidential debate on April 16. The debate was a revolting descent into tabloid journalism and a gross disservice to Americans concerned about the great issues facing the nation and the world. This is not the first Democratic or Republican presidential debate to emphasize gotcha questions over real discussion. However, it is, so far, the worst.

Since when do they get to choose what the issues are, and exactly what is wrong with getting ya? Correct me if I’m wrong, but “gotcha” suggests there’s something to be got.

Also, I’d like to know where the Nation gets off calling this “Journalists Slam ABC Debate Tactics” when clearly the majority of the undersigned are blogging/marginal publication scum if not advocates. A handful may actually draw living wages from news organizations. Campaign for America’s Future? The New America Foundation? The Young Turks? The Reality-Based Community?  That last one isn’t even any kind of partisan group. It’s just an antiquated cliche. And they’re disparaging me? After the fashion of the day, I demand an apology. Whether I deserve it or not.

Hammer down! They’ll clear the lane.

The Marxists at “‘the Nation” have been wrong about virtually everything since they started in what, 1864 or something. When the ideas they advocate have been taken up, it has resulted in gulags, mass graves, environmental catastrophe and societal collapse. So why does anyone even buy that thing, it amounts to high gloss toilet paper.

    That has got to hurt.

I’ll take an honest tabloid like the BH over the hundreds of liberal rags pretending to be “objective.”

Plus, as Jules has pointed out, they have a flair for hats like nobody’s business. That’s talent.
