What an awful, useless exercise! Our forefathers could have, instead, so easily have brought in a conciliator, trained at great expense (though not his own, of course) in the most exclusive schools of Honolulu, New York and Cambridge, to negotiate with the enemy. He would have assured them that the events that were happening were only "the change we have been waiting for", while his ecclesiastical friends excoriated the rebels for their less-than-pc behavior and his incendiary buddies bombed the meeting houses in Lexington, Concord and all other relevant places. How history would have changed! Those God-fearing gun-toters would have been slapped right back into their place, and the absence of freedom (yclept slavery) would have been enjoyed by all.

<strong>Let It Begin Here</strong>

232 years ago, a group of bitter men clung to their guns and religion, driven by their antipathy towards people who weren't like them. It the end, I think it worked out OK.
