Pelosi Doesn’t Know The Bible Very Well

Note to Nancy Pelosi; if you’re going to quote the Bible, be sure that what you’re saying is an actual quote. Don’t let staffers make ‘quotes’ up, pick up a copy of the Bible, start reading it, and if you feel inspired by a particular passage, use it.

And when you are clearly using religion for political purposes you should be 100% sure that you’ve got your facts straight. Otherwise, you’re just making a fake-religious ass out of yourself.

Now, some have asked experts, others have searched the Bible themselves, again others have tried to find the ‘quote’ on the Internet (as have I, just to double check), and again others are experts themselves, but I’ve got to say that when I read this so-called ‘quote’ I was immediately sure that she just made it up. I’ve read the Bible, in its entirety, a couple of times, and believe me; I would have noticed this one.

Reminds me a bit of the so-called ‘quote’: “God helps them who help themselves.” It’s not in the Bible, but I’ve heard people say they think it is.

Uh… Yeah, that’d be Ben Franklin, originally printed in Poor Richard’s Almanac.

    Sheesh…

Michael van der Galien: John, could you give me the year of publication, and a link or something?

    Poor Richard’s Almanac in 1757.

Michael van der Galien: thanks. Do you also have a link? I tried to find it by Googling, but didn’t succeed. You’re not messing with me, right?

  4. Peregrine John Says:

Nope, no messing with that message. Here’s a few to kick off the reference list:
    thinkexist
    Library of Congress
    Barnes & Noble

    Enjoy!

  5. MikeH Says:

Right, Peregrine John has it. I got the date from a second source which is why I didn’t create a link.

  6. Fatty Bolger Says:

How about this extremely popular lefty quote, always attributed to Thomas Jefferson:

“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.”
    - Not Thomas Jefferson.

And seriously, what kind of person admires such an inane statement, anyway? Surely you can dissent and still be patriotic. However, to not only equate dissent with patriotism, but call it the HIGHEST possible form of patriotism, is idiotic.

  7. MikeH Says:

In agreement Fatty Bolger, Howard Zinn said it in an interview with TomPaine.com in order to justify his opposition to the war. It irritates me when cowards try to redefine faux patriotism that has no personal cost, to a higher place than the willful sacrifice of ones life or continued wellbeing for the country that holds his family and neighbors.
