People are Dying
Because of the global food crisis (thank you biofuel), people are dying. They’re rioting, calling on their government to help them… because they’re hungry, but can’t afford to buy food for themselves nor for their children. Little children walk around with ‘hunger bellies.’ They’re crying constantly; they need food. Their mothers are depressed; they realize that their children - and they themselves - may die within a matter of weeks. Does anyone care? Nah.
So… what’s for dinner?

Well, we certainly don’t want to look to socialist solutions for this. Socialist countries are 90% of the problem.
If only we had a way to make crops more resistant to disease and give higher yields! Oh, wait, we do! If only we had a way to sanitize food and prevent spoilage during shipping. Oh, wait, we do! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_irradiation)
You want this problem to go away? It will go away when the governments of the world GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY and let the global market work the way it should.
People are dying? I don’t know if that’s true yet, but it may soon be. And the usual suspects will be at the root of it, and the wrong people will likely be blamed. As always.

That’s politics in science, a creeping infestation because there’s power in information control. When the ability to decipher a subject goes beyond the reach of the common man, a new religion arises because the common man can’t challenge that which he doesn’t know.
