Axis of Evil
Turns out there is one. Here’s how it works. North Korea sells nuclear and missile technology to Middle Eastern pariah states, which are busy developing their own. They cooperate. Â
A couple of them were taken down. Saddam Hussein by force. Moammar Ghaddafi folded, though he’s been looking sheepish about that. Pakistan, with a purportedly rogue agent doing none of us any favors, is purportedly back on side. Bashir Assad and the Iranian mullahs briefly played nice, but appear to have moved beyond that. It isn’t working out for Syria. Thank you, Israel. Iran?
IAEA, alarmed to learn Syria may have been seeking nukes, rushes to inspect the barn. Too late, it was flattened before the horse could bolt. The IAEA is irked that someone eliminated another excuse to justify its existence.
The six-party talks on North Korea may or may not be in jeopardy. Who cares. Stop the aid. Mail him some postcards of what the Syrian plant looks like now. “Wish you were here.” Talks will go on. For what talks are worth.
The BBC ponders the timing of the Bush admin’s release of Syrian-NK nuke links. The Beeb limits itself to geo-politics, neglecting to note that, whatever the global implications, there is also a domestic election underway. It’s April, which makes this by definition no October surprise.Â
There could be any number of reasons. For the moment, I’m inclined to look at it more as a legacy thing. This war is far from over. It is real. Bush did not make it up.

But, but… Nancy Pelosi said that Syria wants peace with Israel, and if they want peace, why would they be buying nuclear weapon technology from the norks?
“We were very pleased with the assurances we received from the president that he was ready to resume the peace process. He’s ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel.”
- Nancy Pelosi
See? I’m sure this was all just one big misunderstanding…

I was surprised that so many members of Congress themselves expressed surprise yesterday at news of the Norks’ hand in the Syrian facility.
Since the connection was fairly well yammered about and not denied when the Israeli attack went down last September. And since high level Syrians had traveled to North Korea in preceding years and months.
And the Syrians, reportedly, filled in all the holes and sanitized the site almost immediately.
(and, geez, exactly how inept is the IAEA, anyway ?)

Here’s why the release was made to the public now. The New York Times has the details and was threatening to release it to the public over the Bush Administration’s protestations.
The Bushomatic 500 was perfectly willing to spin the NoKo agreement yarn all the best to his exist. But he couldn’t dance the Kim jig while waxing large on open door borders too.

Tanstaafl;,
Most Congresscritters pay about as much attention to important news as Meryl Yourish’s new kitten does. And the kitten has more brains.
Fredegar,
The Muslims use special definitions for many words when they talk. For example, when talking about the “innocent victims of terrorism” one discovers that the Muslim definition of “innocent” refers exclusively to Muslims. No Kufr need apply. Thus when the Dorktator of Syria says “Peace” Nancy P. thinks he is using the word the same way she is, but she is deluded. Assad means something more the opposite from what dear Nancy thinks the word means. Probably something along the lines of “Israel gives me all the land I want and then doesn’t shoot back while I try to kill the Jews in Israel.” That’s a good, working definition of the Arab word for “Peace” used in this context.
When Muslims say “Peace in the Middle East” they mean the destruction of Israel and the genocide of its Jewish inhabitants. When they whine for “American Evenhandedness” what they mean is that we should help them achieve this goal. People who remember this will be able to understand the region, while people who think Muslim definitiions of words are the same as ours will never understand it.

“…but she is deluded…”
This is news?

I would submit that the IAEA is less “deluded” than “paid off”.
And Jimmy Carter is senile. The best thing anyone can hope for him is that, when the time comes, someone will make sure his diaper is changed regularly.
