Nazi Gold!

Kraut treasure hunters say they are close to the fabled Nazi plunder. So close, you have to wonder why they don’t just start digging. Electronic equipment, electronic schmequipment. Just start digging! It’s Nazi gold, I tell you! via International Herald Tribune:
Investigators seeking fabled Nazi plunder said Monday that geophysicists have discovered something unusual buried near an east German town — possibly remnants of the long-lost Amber Room.
Treasure hunters speculate that remains of the room — along with gold, paintings and other items stolen from a Russian palace outside St. Petersburg during World War II by the invading Nazis — could be buried near the town of Deutschkatharinenberg.
However, rain has prevented the dig from continuing for several days. The wet weather affected the electronic equipment needed to measure the depth of the material and what it may be below the grass, Mayor Heinz-Peter Haustein said Monday.
Hate to say it, but in my experience of dealing with Nazi stuff hunters, when they start blaming the electronic equipment, it’s more likely to be a problem with the Nazi stuff. Or with the Nazi stuff hunters.

(Note: In the interest of accuracy, I should point out that image up there is not the fabled Nazi plunder, and may in fact be neither Nazi nor plunder. It is a visual aid I grabbed off the Internet to suggest fabled Nazi plunder.)

What, no photos of hot Nazi chicks in black leather and wielding whips? That would be far better fabled Nazi, er, plunder.

So what if they dig it up? Russia will just demand its return anyway.
