Party of Racists and Sexists
Blake Fleetwood* at Huffington post notices the Democratic sexism.
Sexism is alive and well in America.
One exit poll I saw had almost twice as many voters having trouble voting for a woman for president than voting for a black man.
Somehow, amid the hunt for racists, that got overlooked. Well, some people noticed it. NYT dives in as well, with a fantasy piece about what qualities the first woman president will and will not have. The list notably doesn’t include “pathological lying” or “lots of forced grins and cackles.” It’s a not particularly informative ramble, and assumes Hillary is out. She may be, though I don’t believe the last eye has in fact been gouged yet. Speaking of which, I’m disappointed by eye-gouging shtick didn’t make the frightful sexist horror-show vid linked with shudders by Fleetwood. Long with all the sexist slams, it included virtually every other spirited broadside ever leveled at Hillary, including Samantha Power’s “monster” remark. Wake me up when we advance sufficiently that liberal political women can slam liberal women politicians without being called sexist.
There have been a lot of problems with the reading of the polls and reporting on racial and gender issues in this through-the-looking-glass primary. Starting with the casting of blame elsewhere when both of these candidates are severely flawed to begin with. Obama, the post-racial unifier, turns out to be lugging around a lot of bigot baggage. Then there is Clinton’s claim to have 35 years of political leadership experience built largely around her husband’s career.
If in fact the Democratic Party is in this mess of indecisiveness because of rampant racism and sexism, theoretically it should be headed for a big soul-searching on why its ranks are full of bigots and male chauvinist pigs. This has been dodged largely by calling them Reagan Democrat kloset-Klan hillbillies, which is to say, not really Democrats at all. It would all be ironic, good schadenfreude yuks, except for where they plan to go with it. That’s the November loss, which will not play as a repudiation of Democratic policies or half-baked candidates. It will be pitched, gleefully, from our coasts to Europe, as evidence of how backward and bigoted Americans are.
NYT’s “She Might Be President” fantasy piece got one thing right. The first woman or minority president may well be a Republican. It has, after all, been the party to embrace equality and put both women and minorities forward aggressively based on their merits rather than as a fashion statement.
* I realize someone named “Jules Crittenden” probably shouldn’t be making fun of other people’s names, but “Blake Fleetwood” would make a heck of a Ron Mexico name. Backstory on Ron Mexico names here. Get your own Ron Mexico name here. Mine is “Fausto Argentina.” Fleetwood’s is “Ivan Panama.”Â

Any party that pushes identity political is, by my definition, a condoner of bigotry and prejudice. The Democrats have been there for years.

Makes me proud to be a member of the Party of Abraham Lincoln, Jackie Robinson and Everett Dirksen.
And it seems the Party of Dred Scott, Jim Crow and the KKK has not changed a bit in 150 years!
Maybe if Michelle Obama were a member of the GOP she’d have something to be proud of as well.
