McCain re Obama on Iraq:

DID someone say road trip?

Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain has offered to take his likely Democractic counterpart Barack Obama to Iraq to “educate him” on the real situation there.

Senator McCain has said Senator Obama has not been to Iraq in more than two years, since before the so-called troops surge announced by President George W. Bush at the start of 2007.

He has said the country has been transformed since then and Senator Obama cannot have a credible policy on Iraq unless he returns there to see the improvements in security.

“Look at what happened in the last two years since Senator Obama visited and declared the war lost,” Senator McCain has told the Associated Press.  “He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq and he has wanted to surrender for a long time.”

“If there was any other issue before the American people, and you hadn’t had anything to do with it in a couple of years, I think the American people would judge that very harshly.”

Senator McCain supports a long-term US military commitment in Iraq, but Senator Obama wants to start withdrawing troops.

Senator McCain, a former PoW, will seek to run as the national security candidate and paint Senator Obama as too inexperienced for the top job.

But don’t just take McCain’s word for it. Here’s Obama addressing veterans in New Mexico yesterday (once you get past the part about Clinton promising some public housing residents in Puerto Rico she’ll keep their soldier son out of harm’s way):

Obama told a group of veterans that he cannot know what it’s like to walk into battle or lose a child in combat, since he has experienced neither, but he said he is committed to strengthening the military and improving veterans’ services.

According to the lefty anti-war crowd, that was the problem with George Bush. Never went to war. Wore a uniform, but it was a dodge. Had no business sending soldiers to war. Not sure how that works for Obama’s plan to preside over a retreat and a surrender, or a strengthening of the military. Sounds like even he doesn’t think he knows what he’s talking about.

Wouldn’t want to wish the loss of a child on anyone, though McCain is in more danger of  experiencing that as a result of military action than Obama in the near future. Obama could find out what it’s like to walk into battle, though. No shortage of opportunities. Unless he’s a chickendove. He could even just take a walk down the street like McCain did, to great mirth.

The stench must have been unbearable:

    Obama said:

On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.

I’m beginning to wonder if Obama has a serious case of foot in the mouth disease.
